Celebrating Independence Day, Food and More
The Stem Cell Family celebrated the 4th of July in the best way they could. Cake, Ice Cream, Watermelon and Beer! I think the most important thing on the menu for most was the last item:) They all gathered together and enjoyed the day and each other’s company. As for fireworks, Don says he heard some early in the morning but did not see them. That’s right, they shoot fireworks off in the morning not at night. Hmmm…
Another interesting note, apparently Chinese food in China is just not the same as Chinese food here in America. I received a phone call early yesterday morning with instructions to grab pen and paper and jot down a list of “must haves” for the duration of the trip:) Among the many requests were pop tarts, beef jerky, candy and chips. Great for the diet I realize but a must for survival I am guessing! So we set out on a Wal-Mart run and boxed up everything today and will head to FedEx in the morning to get those supplies sent over. Don did order some popcorn chicken that the other families recommended and he said it was OK. Other than that the Chips Ahoy! cookies are good and thank goodness for the food that we DID send over in the bags:) They are eating lots of ice cream too and Don bought PB&J and bread. (Katie Corkern- I remember you saying you ate lots of PB&J while you were there:) Bring back some memories??) Oh and the most important thing that I can’t believe I am saving for the last is Don did purchase Budweiser from the Lotte Mart:) Cha Ching! When all else fails have a beer right! HA I told him to be sure he took a picture of it and had someone else take a picture of him drinking one.
Ella was headed to PT when we spoke awhile ago and then will have her next stem cell treatment on Wednesday. I am so anxious for her to receive more of those wonderful cells!! I gave her a little pep talk before we hung up and told her to show her therapist that our little Iowa girl was tough:) I told her to work hard for them and at that she began laughing and Don said she was shaking her head NO! That’s my girl, she knows how to play those therapists!
Keep praying for those stem cells to start doing great things and also keep the other families that are on this same journey in your prayers as well. May we all see remarkable results in our loved ones from the cells and may everyone have a safe journey home.
