Day 18 – Sunday 17th May 2009 – Lazy Sunday
May 17th, 2009
Today has been pretty uneventful. We had a lovely lie in until 9am, and then went across town to mum’s hotel. We had a look at a shopping mall which is practically next door to mum’s hotel. We didn’t buy anything, this was because the sizes here are so small!! Had a nice buffet lunch in the Holiday Inn, which was very good.
We walked back to the hospital in the early afternoon, just in time to meet the anaethetist to meet us. Josh is due to get his 4th stem cell treatment tomorrow afternoon, but this one is going to be via a lumbar puncture. Because of Josh’s age, it is not possible to get him to lay still for the procedure to take place, and so he will be put to sleep for the duration. They’ve advised us that Josh is more likely to experience side effects such as headaches, fever and nausea, and that its highly recommended to lie on your back for 6 hours after the treatment. I have asked the nurses if its possible for them to keep him asleep for this time also, mainly because Josh is certainly far more mobile since we’ve arrived here, and keeping him still for that amount of time would be very difficult. We’ve got everything crossed for tomorrow!

Hi
I spoke on the phone to Kevin a few weeks ago and have been following your blog. Our little grandson (10 months) suffers from the same condition and so we know what you have been through.
We are all thinking of you and little Joshua. Wishing the very best for him.
Rolly
