Today was a day just like yesterday. The head ache came on around 2 pm but he went to therapy at 3:30 anyway which didn’t work out so good. We left early. I had a bit of a melt down when the doctors came in, it’s just so hard to see him hurting. They have been treating Nate like a king this afternoon - he has recieved ice cream, milk, tea and they even ordered pizza for him for dinner. They are worried that he is not eating enough I guess which could be true. I suppose we don’t go to the supermarket enough, its so confusing. I need to be more assertive in asking for things too and letting them help me make a list in Chinese so I can get help when we get to the market. So…we learned more about communication. They also think it is too hot so we have had the air conditioner fixed…I didn’t even realize it was broken, I thought it just didn’t work very well! Again…I need to be more assertive.
The pizza was good and I filled my hello kitty mug again! Maybe I will even have a second tonight… it was a rough day. We are going to watch another movie. I hope we own stock in itunes
Take care. Love, Nan & Nate

Oh Nanette, I can’t imagine how difficult it is for you first of all having to be away from the rest of your family, having Nate hurting and yet trying so hard and then dealing with the communication and confusion of the different culture. Please know that our family’s thoughts and prayers and always with you and Nate. Your blog that I just read this morning tugged at my heart for you. I hope Nate has a day of feeling good soon.
bye for now

Hi Nate & Nanette, Hello from the Wassingers in Pueblo, CO. We saw Ben & Arlene last week in CO and they shared your story with us. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We have missed seeing your family since we moved. We had so much fun on the Wayne’s dinner rides with you. Your family is truly awesome. My boys loved the story of Nate’s ass meat. Isn’t that surprising? Thank you for sharing Nate’s progress with us. We are sending you some Colorado love from Steve, Sheila, Sam, Sean & Kelly

Just a note to let you know that both of you, as well as your family and friends here, as well as all of the medical personnel, therapists, doctors, nurses, translators, etc., all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers…………………….. I hope Nate has better days, and you too, Nanette! Neither of you deserves what all you are going through, but I know that God has a plan in all of this. God is good, which is one of the things I remember Onamae saying so often………… It is true. Things will all work out to God’s greater plan and it will all make so much more sense some day. It is all in God’s timing, not in ours, which can be extremely frustrating sometimes! Hang in there, and don’t be afraid to voice your fears and frustrations as well as the more positive things.
Grace and Peace,
Deb

I think a meltdown is understandable. You two have both been so strong through all of this. Thank goodness for the kitty cup and pizza. Maybe the airconditioning will help make Nate feel a little more comfortable.
Bill finished the ride the rockies. He is tired today but feeling good about his accomplishment. I went to cheer him on at the end.
Hope there is better news to report to us tomorrow.

Nan and Nate,
Thinking of you. Hope the headache has gone away…Nan did you ask about it being r/t the lumbar puncture leaking? You are on the downhill slide now and we are so hopeful that the treatment will be a success! You two are certainly having some experiences that while hard now will be fun to remember in the future and will bring laughter to you both!! Love you. Jeanne

I’ve beeen gone a few days, so just catching up.. I feel so sad for you, and wish there was anything I could do . You are both being so strong, and how very difficult it must be to see Nate going through all this. You are fighting hard, and we are all pulliing for you, since there’s nothing else we can do. Keep the pizza and Kitty coming, and know you are being thought of……….

I hope when you get this Sun. it will be a brighter day and Nate’s headache will subside. My heart ached for you when I read that Nate was not feeling OK and you were having a hard time, Nan. We all lose it at times and this was your day.Don’t be too hard on yourselves and realize sometimes our emotions get the best of us.
The end is in sight so hang in there and we’ll all hope it’s an easier day.
We love you,
Nancy & Bob

Nate & Nan
I think we all wish we had the right words of encouragement for you right now. What you are going through is not easy and being in such a different culture with all the adjustments from food to communication doesn’t help. What you have accomplished so far is amazing. We are thinking of you and keeping you both in our thoughts and prayers.
Alex had his 4th birthday today. Kendra had a birthday party for him this afternoon in Eaton’s park. Alex is really proud of himself because he can ride his bike without training wheels now. Bradon is also racing around without training wheels. Andrew & Audrey are just racing around. We had a fun time just trying to keep up with everyone.
Hang in there

In my one and only marathon, I remember “hitting the wall” about 3/4 into the run. It sounds like Nate is hitting the “Great Wall of China”. The trick was to just stay focused knowing that the end is near.
Nan, you are having problems getting supplies in China, here is a story with the opposite senario.
A mine owner advertised for new workers and three guys turned up– and Irishman, and italian, and a Chinaman. The owner tells the Irishman, ” You’ll be in charge of the mining” He tells the Italian, ” You’ll be in charge of lift.” He tells the Chinaman, “You’ll be in charge of making sure we have supplies.” The next day the three men went into the mine, and at the end of the day one man was missing , the Chinaman. They searched for him for hours. Just as they were about to give up, he jumped out from behind a rock yelling, “Supplies! Supplies!”
Take care , Scott
