day 23

We had a very good day. Braden did have therapy this morning. We took the rest day off and went to a place called GEMO. We went with 2 other families so we could split the cab tab. It was what I thought China would look like, lots of people, small shopping stores, and lots of knick knacks it was a lot of fun and we got to see some really neat things. I would really like to go back if I get the chance. We did find a store called Mary’s and all she sells is imported goods and yes Braden got his syrup and a whole lot of other things, a little pricey but worth it. I had nachos for dinner and Braden got his baked beans. Braden has another spinal injection tomorrow so lets hope all goes smooth again.

day 22

Today Braden had therapy and was a little tired and wore out. Afternoon therapy was only electro and acupuncture, no pt. There is a rec room upstairs so Braden an I went to check it out. There was a eight year old chinese boy playing ping pong so we offered to play, Never play a chinese person in ping pong, even if there only eight. Nothing really new today just hung out, There are several new families checking in this week, six I think, so maybe Braden will make some new friends.

day 21

21 days down 22 to go, almost half done! Today we took the day off, Braden was sore from the injection and was up until about 2 am. We did a little shopping and went to the Holiday Inn with 2 other families for dinner. Afterwards we walked to the park to see if they had the water and lights turned on but they didn’t but it was nice out and we injoyed the walk. Aunt Bev sent a question about french toast, no they don’t have it here or pancakes and cereal. The Chinese don’t really have sweets for breakfast, it just looks like they have a fried egg with thier chinese food. And Bradens teacher Tracy wanted to know if he is still getting his pb & j’s, yes but he found new peanut butter with chocolate in it. The Doctor seen Braden and is very impressed with his progress, his involuntary movement in his upper body has decrease by about 50%, but at times when he get excited or mad he still has alot of moventent but he is very relaxed most of the time.

day 20

Braden did really good today, he had another lumbar stem cell injection. He is back in our room and resting fine for now but i’m sure he will be sore later. We will probably cancel therapy for morning because his lower back is sore the next day. Today we went to the store and thought we found syrup, we were very excited so we bought bread and eggs so we could make french toast. We we got back I tasted it and I wasn’t sure exactly what it was. It was in the isle with the peanut butter and jam (no jelly here) so I thought it had to be syrup, it looked like syrup. So I showed it to my translator told him I was looking for maple syrup. He never heard of syrup! Instead I bought sore throat syrup, you mix it with hot water and drink it, not for pancakes!!!!!!!!!!

DAY 19

Today we just hung out and relaxed, we did go to a different mall today the liqun shopping center. Its one of the nicest malls I’ve ever been to. It’s about a 30 minute walk from the hospital and it was nice just to get out. The rest of the day we just layed around and watched movies. Braden has a tough week ahead, he has therapy 6 days and spinal injection on Monday and Friday. Our international rep. Matthew invited us out to dinner and he said there is one mexican food resturant down town, so maybe we’ll do that later in the week. Everybody here just loves Braden, every morning he has to go to all of his friends rooms and tell them all good morning. Two of the families that are here are leaving this week, 10 year old leena and 4 year old joesph. I’m sure Braden will make new friends when other families arrive, but he will be sad to see the others leave.

day 17

We had an off day today and decided to go to r-t mart. It’s basically a mall with a grocery store, but they have an international section that sells imported goods. I have been craving a grill cheese for a week (it’s very hard to find cheese here). The picture is in the meat section of the store, it’s a whole fried chicken, yes! that’s the head. When you want fish you pick it right out of the tank and they give it to you alive or they will gut it for you. They have live crab, turtle, muscles, shrimp, oysters and you name, they surly have it alive. It’s actually pretty neat. We just relaxed most of the day, Braden is feeling good, we did do some stretching and he loves walking up and down the stairs, we did that for about an hour. I got tired before he did. We have therapy all day tomorrow and have all Sunday off. No plans yet but I’m sure will find something to do.pic_06001pic_06112

day 16

Braden ended up having a rough night, for about 30 minutes his body got very erratic and then broke out in a bad sweat. I called the doctor in and he said his reaction was normal because the injection stimulated his nervous system. He was pretty restless during the night and was just soked with sweat. We cancelled all therapy for the day and I made Braden relax and do stretching all day. Well today is our 10th wedding anniversary since I couldn’t spend it with my wife, we went out for dinner with 5 other families, it was nice to get out away from the hospital. Braden is doing much better tonight and we have an off day tomorrow

day 15 1st lumbar injection

Braden had his 1st lumbar injection today at 2:30. At 3:05 he was done and resting back in our room. All went very well, Braden didn’t get sick or sore at least not tonight. Braden had to lay flat on his back for 6 hours because of the stem cells they put in his spine could cause pressure on his brain and give him severe headache, but he was a trooper and did just what the dotcor told him.

day 14

Braden just had therapy today, the Doctor came to see Braden and is very impressed with his progress so far. He thinks that Braden’s body is accepting the stem cells very well and he expects to see alot of improvement in Braden in the next few weeks. If Braden has rapid changes then the doctor suggeststhat we come  back in 3 to 6 months.  Braden also started getting control of his left hand today, he was able to open and close it several times when told. We went out for steaks tonight and I ordered a t-bone and it was served with a fried egg and spaghetti. The steak was very thin but good. The salad bar was included and it had clams, oysters, some kind of a wierd cooked fish, peel and eat shrimp, and a chocolate fountain with fruit. The sign on the building said western style food.   I guess I don’t live that far west. Braden’s 1st lumbar injection is tomorrow so lets  hope all goes well.
