1st Day of PT & OT

October 8th, 2008

Brandon had his 1st day of Accupuncture yesterday (Tues).  It really didn’t go well.  He was very upset & it took us awhile to get him calmed down, but we finally did.  It’s not so much that it hurt so bad it was just the idea of all those needles.  However, it does hurt a little.   It only lasted about 20 min. and he was amazed how much it didn’t hurt to remove the needles.  Next we had Electric Wave therapy.  That is where they put small electrodes on his muscles, he fell asleep during this procedure. : )  Later in the day he had about 45 min. of therapy.  He was pretty tired by then and he took a nice long nap afterwards.  All in all it wasn’t a real bad day just a long one.  He will have his IV treatment today, along with another day of PT & OT.

Thank you all for sending your comments, I love reading them.  It makes it a little easier knowing we can keep in touch this way.   I want to say hello to Egill Helgason from Iceland.  Brandon does have SMA type 3.  He’s 4 yrs. old and was diagnosed about 2 yrs ago.  Take care everyone and we all miss you.

Sharon

I was wondering how the whole acupuncture thing would go over with him…hopefully it will get better. Does that help to relax the muscles? Hope the IV treatment goes well. Love you and miss you.

    Brandon,
Be a big man for papa and do what the Dr’s tell you to do. I know some of the things they are doing to you will hurt but be a big boy for me. You have to do these things so you can walk off the airplane and give me a huge hug when you get back. Sharon I emailed Egill Helgason with Brandon’s information and let them know they can contact me with any questions they may have. Looks like Brandon’s becoming the SMA world spokesman. May an early career.lol Love you all and can’t wait to see how the rest of the treatments and therapies go. Talk to you soon.
    Love
    Papa

Hi all–thanks so much for writing and letting us know how Brandon is doing! It must be hard for a little kid to have all those needles put in, no matter how much you try to prepare him. I’m hoping the IV stuff goes well today, then a few more days of work and then you can rest on the weekend. Do you get to go anywhere except the market? Does he get to get out and get fresh air? Is there a place to play for the kids? I’m praying for you and Dave and I talk about you guys every day! Love, Robin

    Hey Little Buddie,
You be brave and show us all that you are going to walk off that Airplane when you come home to PaPa.
Sharon, glad to hear you have met some nice people there to help pass the time and share all the procedures with each other. Makes it easier to be so far from home.
    Luv ya..

    Hi Sharon & Brandon,
Good to hear that things are going well. Have to feel sorry for you Brandon, I don’t like needles either. Hopefully it will get better. The weather here in Arizona ifinally coolingoff a little. We are back to the low 90′s and this weekend is suppose to be even cooler, should see the 50′s at night.. Hang in there, Brandon, we are all praying for you. I have a Guardian Angel sitting here on my computer with your name on it.
    Love ya,
    Ellie
