2nd treatment

May 23rd, 2007

Thankfully Brooklyn is doing much better and had her second treatment this afternoon. This treatment was an IV so she didn’t have to lay still for 6 hours afterward. I was walking the halls with another mom here and we were talking about our experiences with telling our dr’s (her’s in canada) about coming to china. After Joanna said china, Brooklyn chimed right in with “china.” Joanna looked at me and I said did she just say china – she sure did. I also learned she can say open. I am not sure how all of this came about but I will take it. I thought she was getting close before we left. She is back to therapy tomorrow in the morning and I might go back to the shoe market in the afternoon – can’t beat real leather shoes for $15. Scott – did you find that second job yet?

As usual fuss pants is making a stink so i much get off and get her to bed – hopefully she will sleep well. I am trying to pick up some chinese and the drs and nurses say I am doing well – the hard part is remembering it all. I don’t think I will get to the point that I will be able to understand much but if I can get my point across it will work.

Everyone on the floor is so nice – we keep saying we need to organize a social hour every night to have some company. I have to get going. I heard the wings lost and that gas is at a price I don’t even want to think about – I hope that all changes soon.

love heather & brooke

    Dear Heather and Brooklyn,
I am so glad to hear that her second treatment went well. I hope it doesn’t make her ill like the first one. I am sure you were exhausted after Monday night. Think positive it can only get better.
Dustin is home from college. I can tell it allready by my food bill. He just started working with a neighbor who has his own architecht business. I hope he gets some good experience. He plans on going to school full time again this summer.
I celebrated my 50th birthday on monday. I don’t feel 50 but my mirror says otherwise. It was a quite day for me. Just the way I wanted it. No party I did not want one.
Alex is in Chicago to meet Fawn ( his girlfriend) She is comming home from China Thursday. She spent three months there doing her internship for teaching art. She graduates this year.
I just wanted to let you know how everyone is doing and I am keeping you and Brooke in my thoughts and prayers.

    Hi Heather -
Brooke’s words seem really encouraging! :) Glad things are going better today. I know you’re technically there “alone”, but you have sooo many people here pulling for you & Brooke – just a thought away!

More importantly, $15 LEATHER SHOES!!! Lauren with her shoe fetish would definitely be having a blast there.

    Take care.

Heather – glad to hear the 2nd treatment went well. Yeah – hockey season is over. Had follow up this AM with eye dr. & vision is now 20/25 . Other eye will be done on the 14th of June. So I’ll have X-ray vision before you guys get home. Sounds like Syd is missing her sister like all of us are. I can’t imagine how glad she will be to see you. She sounds like she’d doing OK. A social gathering would be great – I’m sure everyone there could use a lot of company.

    Love, DAD

I hope she got her sickness out of the way before I get there. No I have not applied for the second job yet but maybe I could resurrect my landscaping business…..maybe my brother would be interested. When do I get the crash course in Chinese, the 12 hours we will cross paths when I arrive and you leave to visit Syd?

I can bring some adult beverages to liven up the the social hour, I bet I would be a big hit upon arrival.

Only 3 days left til we get on the plane. The house is awful quiet and empty with the 2 of you gone. Can’t wait to see you both. As I walk around the house I find myself looking at the pictures that never seemed to get a second look when everyone is here. Talk to you in a few hours.

    Love, Me

    Hi

Glad things are going well. Sounds like Brooke is really getting comfortable with her new surroundings. It’s good that you have other parents on the floor for support. The social hour is a great idea: It will give all of you time to recharge your batteries.

In other news, Jordin Sparks won “American Idol” and Apollo and Julianne won “Dancing with the Stars.” The Nationals beat the Red Sock, moving them to within 12 games of first place (gotta stay positive).

    Love you guys. Stay strong.

    Heather

I’m so excited that she’s starting to talk, what a major milestone!
Also jealous of the shopping. Been on a shopping strike here with the move coming up so I will live it up through your great finds:-) We’ll have to meet up in Chicago sometime, ok not as good as China but still fun!

    Love
    Amy
