My Last Night In Hang Zhou

June 5th, 2007

I can not believe almost a week has gone by. Heather has arrived on her train from Shanghai and I leave on a 7:00 train tomorrow evening back to Shanghai to return home on Saturday. Brooke will have her last stem cell transfer tomorrow. She has been really great since I have been here, as long as she is moving. I have seen Brooke progress and change in the quick week I was here. Heather has done a wonderful job planning and preparing for this trip. All to come out very well. I was not quite sure what to expect upon coming but it has more than exceeded my expectations. I am hoping Brooke’s progress does the same thing.

We have met some incredible people from all over the world since we have been here. Scotland, Romania, Singapore, Canada, and even Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. All their stories are different, and their hopes and dreams are different but all trying to improve the quality of life for them or their children. We are blessed to have Brooke the way she is when I look at some of the other people. But we are doing the same, trying to improve Brooke’s quality of life.

The support and prayers from family and friends has been overwhelming. I could list all the neighbor’s, co-workers’s, etc. but you are all our friends. A big thanks to my parents and Heather’s for all their love and support through all this. A special thanks to my sister for making Shanghai our home base through all this. You have been a tremendous help, more than we could thank you for. Even though the trip got more expensive with all the shopping spree’s, that includes me. I also want to mention and say thanks to those that contributed to the fundraiser that Dennis orchestrated. What a relief.

No, I have not forgetten Heather. Brooke will never remember any of this, but we certanly will. Your love and sacrifice has already given her a better life. Not only through this treatment, but the treatment you give her every day. You are an exceptional mother and one day both Sydney and Brooke will realize the same thing I know. I love you and thank you every day.

This is my swan song for posting in the blog. This experience has been incredible. Definitely makes you take a different look at life. Brooke is doing great and progressing every day. Our adventure is almost over, and in no time we will be back home. Thanks again to everyone for the comments, prayers, and encouraging words. We are truly blessed!!!!

Goodbye for now.

you all so much. Thanks for keeping us all informed as you did. Heather put the pressure on you so you were stuck.

What wonderful words, Scott! Thank you for sharing with us. I think you deserve a ton of credit yourself. You’ve been a loving father and supportive husband, and my family feels very fortunate that you are in ALL our lives…..after all, I know how difficult it can be to put up with my sister :)

This whole experience, looking at it from the outside, makes me better appreciate my wonderful son, my loving husband and the beautiful family that I’m lucky enough to belong to (and marry in to). I commend you and Heather for taking our little Brookie to the other end of the earth to better her life in whatever way possible. She’s a pretty remarkable little girl already, but we’re so proud of the hard work she’s been putting in. I know it’s going to pay off! IPlease know that you have a family back home who loves you and supports you and will be here for whatever you may need.

I’m sure you’re all looking forward to being together again as a family (we sure look forward to seeing everyone back home together). Enjoy one another!

See you soon! Hugs & Kisses & Hugs.

    Love,
    Nikki

Heather & Scott – You and your family have been in my prayers and I have enjoyed the postings and reading about Brooke’s progress these past few weeks. I know that all of us parents say and believe that we would go to the ends of the earth to help our children, but you have taken it to a new level! I can only imagine that this has been a life-changing experience for all of you. God bless you and see you safely home! Love, Nancy Kosch

Hi Scott & Heather, wow!!! It brought tears to my eyes reading your last entry Scott. Truly words from the heart. I am so happy to hear that you see a difference with Brooklyn. No matter what, the trip you made was worth it. Being a parent is the hardest thing in the world. You think that once your kids grow up and get married everything will be perfect. NOT!! Life is never perfect, it’s what you do with the little adversities you get along the way that counts. Have a safe trip back home Scott and I will continue to read the blog from Heather.

Dear Scott, Thanks so much for the updates and your wonderful words of love, sacrifice, and encouragement regarding your family. God doesn’t provide an easy button during our time here and how we handle life and what it throws at us is witness to our character. You and your family have come through with flying colors and it shows in the blog reports from both you and Heather. We continue to pray daily for you, Heather, Sydney and improvement for Brooke. It sounds like she’s doing fantastic. Looking forward to meeting at the swim hole when you return. Remember, Aunt Diane is always available to babysit, if I can get past Grandma Pat. We wish you a safe trip home.
    Love and Hugs,
    Uncle Ken and Aunt Diane
