Last Night in Qingdao

Well this is our last night in Qingdao and it has turned cold. We’ve had our last meal over at the Steakhouse across the road with our new American friends Jim and Cary. I kid you not!! Jim is the father and he keeps Connor amused by telling  jokes all the time. I think Connor will really miss them.

We went to the Eye hospital and Connor had repeat tests which showed an improvement on the last time. It’s not much but it’s what we could have expected as a minimum result and anything is better than nothing.

Connor finished his last acupuncture and electrowave therapy today and he is so glad all his treatments are over and we are just waiting to hop on that plane tomorrow even if we do have to wait 4hours for our plane to fly out from Beijing. As long as our flight doesn’t get delayed or we loose our luggage again all will be sweet.

Well I’m off now, see you all soon.

The countdown begins

Hi Everyone,

Connor has had his last injection woo hoo!! The Doctor just came in and took Connor in the bathroom because it’s black when the lights are off. He shone the light in Connor’s eyes and he told him each time correctly which eye. We have to go back to the other eye hospital and have the same tests repeated that we had when we first arrived so the results will be very interesting.

We are the only 2 Auzzies left here now. The other family left yesterday so it is really quiet here. We went to the Hilton with them a couple of nights ago which was really nice but I should have bought something a little more dressy to wear than t shirts. Connor had a variety of duck, chicken, pork and other dishes. He had us all laughing when he was eating his duck because just before he put it in his mouth he said Say your prayers duck.

Another good thing that has happened since we have been here is Connor hasn’t had his hands on his eyes at all so lets hope he continues that when we get home.

We can’t do much today because we have to stay inside after the injections because Connor’s back is a bit tender from the Spinal.

That’s it for now, talk soon.

xx

Nothing much happening again

Hi Everyone,

Thanks again to everyone who is keeping us sane by reading our blogs and writing back to us. Nothing much is happening right now except all the families have just about gone. Connor’s group of friends left this morning which was a bit sad because they all became so close. When I figure out how to add some photos I will. Connor had a bad experience with the Electric Wave Therapy this morning. The first machine didn’t work and the second worked too well, he got zapped pretty hard which was upsetting. We got him calmed down and continued on. The treatments keep going and I have just paid for his 6th treatment which was $3500 USD so that is $23800 Chinese dollars. Can you imagine how many times I went to the teller machine. It was a lot!! We went to Pizza Hut tonight with another Ozzy family who is here at the moment. The first time we went it was great we had someone who spoke some English but tonight not so lucky. So it got a bit tricky tonight and everyone just stared at us. The time we have left I think I will stick to the 2 dishes I make and the rest takeaway.

To Nathan thanks but no thanks I will not bring anything that vaguely looks like it might have once lived back with me into Australia.

To Renae do I even need to say anything about the trakkies except to say now I have something to clean the bathrooms in WHEN note the WHEN I do them.

Connor has two more treatments one IV and one Lumbar and then we go back to the other hospital for the same tests to compare.

Fingers Crossed xx

Hello again

Sorry for the delay. We’ve had no power and no internet. Connor has had his 3rd injection and he is going great. His light perception is really getting stronger everyday. We were going to sit in the common lounge room the other day so I asked Connor to walk out and find the light which was where the lounge is. He made it all the way by himself. So that to me is a great thing. He hardly presses his eyes anymore which is great as well. We have been busy downloading songs to the ipod and we even got some cd’s for him to listen to while he is laying on his back for six hours. His next injection is tomorrow and that will be a spinal injection which he came out of really well last time. Connor has found a new website he likes to listen to, it gives him 30 seconds of songs for any particular artist so you can image who Connor asked me to look up. Yes it was Cher. I went to a place called the RT Mart it’s a big shopping centre, I found a pair of boots because I only bought my slippers and a pair of joggers. They cost me 200 RMB which is roughly $32.00 AUD so that is the extent of my shopping spree. We are off to Pizza Hut tonight and we are told it’s very good. I will let you know next time.

A bit late

Hi everyone,

Sorry I didn’t write anything last night. Connor and I went out for dinner with the family from Sydney. It was one of the girls birthday. First we all celebrated in the hospital with a huge cake. There was so much Honi was giving it out to anyone that walked past.

Next we took the kids across the street to a mini amusement park. Well not so mini they have a roller coaster, pirate ship and other things like that. We took an interpretor with us thankfully because it took roughly 20mins to buy our tickets.

After all that the birthday girl was only allowed on one ride because she is short for a four yr old. So you can imagine a lot of tears.

Connor only went on one ride which was the merry go round but he did go on it twice. It was so cold over there I could feel it coming up through my shoes.

Then we went to a steak restaurant and the steak was beautiful. We got soup, a salad roll, the steak with eggs and vegies and either a tea or icecream for the kids. The cost for Connor and myself was roughly $7 AUD total. Where can you buy a meal for $3.50 ??

Connor continues to improve, last night he actually turned away from the bedside light to go to sleep, then this morning another blackout in the bathroom. Connor went in before me so I didn’t know. Then when I went in for my shower there was no power so the bathroom was pitch black with the door closed. When I came out I asked Connor what it was like in the bathroom and he said black just like night time. He was correct. So I think that is great.

Getting Stronger

Hi All,

Well I think Connor continues to improve all the time. Because I got so excited last night about the lights I thought we would try again at a different time today. It was lunch time so I told him it was a game and I would count how many times he could tell me when I had my hands up blocking the light and when I took my hands away. He guessed correctly everytime which still amazes me after only 2 treatments. Today Connor didn’t feel like going out because he had a sore back but tomorrow we will have to get outside for a sanity break. Even if it’s just to walk up to the end of the road and back.  I went over to get a few groceries while Connor played with the girls so I thought I would buy a bottle of red wine. Keeping in mind to get a screw cap cause I didn’t have a bottle opener, so what do I come back with yes a bottle with a cork. I found a plastic bottle opener in the kitchen, got it in the bottle but do you think I could get the cork out. So I asked one of the dads here and he said no probs he could get it out. I thought he was going to put his elbow through a wall but he did get it out.  So I am sitting down with a Cab Sav that is very light on but what the hey. Cause to top off having no power for last night and most of today I send Connor in for a shower and they have taken the shower head off so they could buy new ones for other rooms and haven’t put ours back on. It’s all good as long as Connor keeps getting good results.

Talk soon xx

Connor’s First Spinal

Hi everyone, Connor has just returned from his first spinal injection and he isn’t totally with it. He keeps asking me if the needle has gone in yet and does he have a good voice for anaethesia ? not sure if I spelt that correctly. The trick now is to keep his head still for 6 hours, he is still numb cause he doesn’t know if he is moving or not. Now we just have to wait it out and hope he doesn’t get sick or a headache.

I will keep you posted :)

A few words from Connor

Hi Everyone,

This morning at 10am my therapist came in to do the acupuncture and electrowave therapy. We went to the shops to buy onion, cheese, beans, biscuits etc. We made our own dinner which was meat, capsicum, carrots, beans, onion and noodles which was tasty.

I had peanut butter on toast for breakfast and Macca’s for lunch cause we couldn’t go out because of the pollution.

That’s all for now, bye :)

Not much happening today

Hi all, we haven’t done much today because so much polution, y. Connor had his usual acupuncture today as well as electrowave therapy. He couldn’t feel the electrowave yesterday so the doctor turned it up a little bit which Connor did not like at all, I have taken photo’s but they are blocked from this end. At around 10.30 we ordered lunch. Yes that’s what time we order Lunch 10.30 delivered 11 and Dinner ordered around 4.30 well and truly hospital hours. I took Connor out to get a few more groceries today which was a little adventure itself. We have to get across nearly 6 lanes of traffic with no traffic lights. Once you are out there you just have to keep going and hope for the best. That was ok but then we had to get back with the bags. We are giving the take away a break tonight and I am going to attempt to cook something. I will update you on that tomorrow. Not much else to talk about tonight so I will update again tomorrow about our cooking adventure.

Talk soon
