Thursday and still more headaches
July 17th, 2008
Jeff is still having headaches today. The doctor came in this morning to check on him and told Jeff he had to have IV fluids again today. He is worried because Jeff is supposed to have his final IV injection of stem cells tomorrow and if he does not feel better he can not have it.
They only do the stem cells treatments on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday because they are flown in fresh from another province in China. If Jeff does not get a treatment tomorrow, then he will not be able to get one at all–unless we extend our stay. You have to wait 48 hours after receiving stem cells by IV–longer for spinal injections–to get on a plane. It has to do with the pressurized cabin.
I am not going to say we will not stay–Jeff getting better is why we are here and we will do whatever it takes to help him as much as possible. However I will say that I don’t really want to stay. This last week has been tough on all of us, especially Jeff.
Please say a special prayer for us today that his headache goes away and he can have his stem cell IV as planned. I truly believe with all my heart that God led us to this place and that He has kept watch over us while we are here. I know that we have many people at home faithfully praying for Jeff and God has heard those prayers. Thank you!

I will pray a thousand more times today for you and Jeff. Please be stronge. If you have to stay a few more days, so be it. God works in ways we don’t understand, but only he knows why. Jeff needs to get that last treatment to have the best possible chances. Tell Jeff to drink lots of water to have good veins for tomorrow.
Don’t worry about your room and school stuff. We will all help you get ready. Just relax for now as best you can!

Hello to all 3 of you
I am Lane’s older and better looking cousin, and I have worked with Shirley for 26 yrs. Even though I haven’t written before, I have been praying for ya’ll.
Isn’t it great to know that God is alive and answers prayers as He is doing for you.
Jeff, I am very glad to hear of your progress – way to go. I’m sorry you haven’t felt well the last few days but things will get better, hang in there. Sometimes trials make us stronger. I know that one day your experience will have a profound impact on someone’s life.
Leslie, you are quite the communator. Your posts have been informative, educational, and entertaining. Thanks for keeping us so well informed. It is obvious your faith is strong and your support of Jeff is beyond compare.
Dave, it seems as though you have settled into “this foreign thing” pretty good. What a great thing to go and help as you have. Sounds to me like you could start a business on the side, or write a book.
I was recently talking to the owner of a Chinese restaurant and telling him of your situation. He said China was interested in helping people as opposed to having so many regulations to follow like US. He has a friend with Aids who has been greatly helped with treatments in China.
Who knows, one day you 3 might very well be instrumental in getting things changed so US citizens can take advantage of helpful treatments without having to wade through unnecessary regulations.
I’m glad you have time to get exposed to their culture and see so many sights. I suppose you have seen things that most of us will never see.
In your few remaining days here are some phrases you might use
English Chinese
Did you go to the beach? Wai yu so tan?
You are not very bright Yu so dum
Stay out of sight Lei lo
He’s cleaning his automobile Wa shing ka
Your body odor is offensive Yu stin ki pu
Late night Chinese talk show Ja ni kah sun
Praying that eveything goes well in the days ahead and you have a safe and uneventful trip home
Richard

I know that ya’ll do not want to have to stay longer than you thought you would be staying. However, YA’LL might be forced to!!!! All hands have been put in His and He would not have sent ya’ll so far away to not have completed this Long Journey. Leslie, Jeff and Dave I know there are 3 little precious angels that will still be waiting for the 3 of you whenever ya’ll get baack to Alabama. They will be here even if your stay must be longer. They will still give ya’ll Hugs, Kisses and I Love You!!!! Your trip has been about so many people and so many have been praying and pulling for ya’ll for a long time. Jeff’s headache will get better and the treatment may be delayed longer than ya’ll want BUT don’t stop now. I am so thankful the headache was delayed until the last of your adventure. I just know that ya’ll might not have been strong enough to have gone this long if Jeff had had to suffer earlier than now. Remember there are so many of us that love you all, are praying for everyone. I just know in my heart that God will give ya’ll the strenght and love to help everyone to be brave to see the light at the end of this tunnel. Chin up, hold that head high and remember ya’ll have not traveled as far as ya’ll have to defeated now. That has not been what He has guided for ya’ll to do. May God bless and keep each of you safe and help your hearts not feel so heavy. I love each of you so very much and your 3 precious angels. I am so very proud of all. Debbie

Jeff,
With a head like yours, it oughta hurt! lol…..just kidding! Seriously, I hope you feel better so that you can receive your last treatment. Also, since you’ve been there this long, I was wondering–is it true when they say “2nd verse, same as the first…..Chinese version, a little bit worse?”
Just thought ya’ll could use a little humor!
