Exciting Sunday

March 2nd, 2008

Well today a bunch of us went site seeing.  Terry, Jena & Laylah, Devin & I and Jason, Lora & Justin.  We went into the city of Hangzhou which is about a 25 minute drive.  And the way they drive you wish it was only 5 minutes.  There is just no way to explain a ride in a vehicle around here.  In the city they have a lake called West Lake with all kinds of shops around the lake.  The lake was very pretty however it was a little impossible to stop and take pictures or video anything because every time you stopped you were attacked by Chinese people.  I seriously am not exaggerating.  They would swarm around our kids and try to touch them all over.  This even happened when we would try to shop so the women would go into the shop while the guys stood around our kids to guard them and within 10 minutes we would have to leave because the men could not keep them away.  So our shopping was limited because of this.  It actually was pretty sad to know that we couldn’t even enjoy our shopping adventure or site seeing because of the safety of our kids.  I told the rest of the group I wonder if this is what it feels like to be a famous person in the US as you are never left alone by the public.  One of the persons here at the hospital told us the Chinese didn’t mean no harm it’s just they have never seen an American.  I told them that was fine if they wanted to stare or take pictures but to literally attack you was not polite.  So needless to say that will probably be our last adventure with very little pictures to bring home:(

We did however end the day with some fun and you will never guess where Devin got to go… In the city they have a Hooters China…that’s right Devin went to hooters but as you can image the Chinese hooters are not even close to the US hooters!!!!!  I wouldn’t know as I don’t even think I have ever been to a hooters in the US but I’m sure it’s a little different.  So, Devin did get his picture taken with the girls and loved every minute of that.

We can’t talk much as we spent the whole day out today and it is already 7:00pm and Devin is very tired and needs a shower tonight after the day he had today.

This week Devin has a spinal on Monday and Friday so it will be a hard week but that will make the last week easy.

Have a great Sunday.

Kim & Devin

    Hi Devin and Kim,
So now you know what it feels like to be a celebrity. But, Devin, you already get that here. Everybody mobs you at school. I’ve ridden in taxis in other countries and know what you are talking about. Just pretend you are at DisneyWorld and it makes it a little more fun. My wife Pat, an OT, was here for the weekend and enjoyed reading about your adventures. She took the address home so she could read about you daily. Sounds like your week will be very busy, and then one more to go. Good luck this week, especially on treatment days. I know you both are troopers and can look forward not just to the end but the results.

    Kim and Devin,

Just wanted to say “Hi” ~ it was so great to hear your voices on Friday/Saturday. Devin, I can’t wait to see your pictures with the girls from Hooters. We went for a walk today (in our snow boots, through the puddles and slush – LOL). I wish you the best of luck this week and I hope it goes by really quick for you. As always, you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

    Love, Jodie

    Hi Kim & Devin,
I’m glad that you are able to get out and see some of the sights even though the papparazzi (?) wouldn’t leave you alone.
Just a little about Jenna’s time here…. We got outsidea couple of days last week. Jenna loved it! She’s kind of like the “papparazzi” herself with the cows .She can’t see enough of them or get close enough to them ( don’t worry , I keep a close eye and don’t let her get too close). She also discovered that snow tastes good. she is constantly eatting it off of her mittens (yum yum.) We hope to get outside this week weather permitting. The kids all talk about youand Devin being in China and look forward to seeing you again. They all say “hi” and send hugs and kisses especially Jenna and macie and Melia. Speaking of Macie I’m sure she would like you to buy a pair of shoes over there so that she could try them on (ha ha).
You are in our thoughts and prayers always

    Hi KIm and Devin,

Devin, you dog you! Going to Hooters? I’ll bet you’ll be the only first grader at Cuba City to say you’ve been there. I can’t wait to see those pictures. I know you’ll have plenty to say about that.
I was at Happy Joe’s tonight for a birthday party with my daughter, Emily. And guess who was there too? Hayley, Connor, and your Aunt Sue. It was fun to visit with them. Hayley and my husband are always picking on each other. I think Hayley won quite a few tickets.
I guess you just attract people no matter where you go Devin. It must be that amazing smile that makes people want to crowd around you.
You might have heard that it was actually in the forties here today. it felt so warm. I think we all felt like it was a summer day. We did get rid of a lot of snow, but there is still plenty out there. It is raining now. We’ve even had some lightning and thunder. I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind.
We’ll be praying for you tonight buddy as you’ll be going in for your treatment while we’re sleeping. Stay strong. We know you’ll do great.
Kim, as always, we love to read your stories. You should write a book when you get back. I bet it would make Oprah’s Book Club. Your feelings come shining through.
You are in our thoughts and prayers Kim. God blessed Devin with an awesome mom.

    Take care,
    Annie

    Hi Kim & Devin,

We hope your treatment went smoothly for the both of you today. The schools had another 2 hour delay today. I guess we had to make up for the snow that melted Sunday. The sun felt so good yesterday that I didn’t even need a coat when I was outside. It’s great to hear that you had a good time at Hooters! You both are in our thoughts and prayers daily. We can’t wait to see you guys when you get back home.

    Love,
    Peggy

    Hi Devin amd Kim!!!!!
Hooters! Jeff can’t get Bailey to go to Hooters. I guess he’ll have to take you now that you’re a Hooters man. You will probably blow that picture up and hang in your room. Not much happening in Illinois. We got more snow last night. We did have a nice day yesterday, but nothing like you are getting. Hope your treatments go well this week. Keep up the good work Devin. You take care also Kim. You are in our thoughts and prayers daily.
Love, Jeff, lynn, Bri and Bailey

    Hey Kim and Devin,
WoW, that seems unusual to have the Chinese so interested in us. Does that mean they really haven’t seen Americans? It’s interesting to hear your escapades. I’m glad to hear Devin had his picture with the girls at Hooters…..You devil you Devin…..Take care and good luck with your treatments. We were so glad to have Pat and Jenna for supper last week. She is a real cutie….sort of got me in the palm of her hand. Typical women…..She is special. Pat tried to enjoy his meal. Julie outdid yourself. Good luck.
