Last night was a good night, Dillon slept pretty good. I was able to let Mom sleep a little later than normal. Then this morning Dillon had tons of secretions and felt a little warm. He had a temp of around 99 something. The doctors told us to start him on our natural antibiotics. They decided to skip the acupuncture this morning since Dillon was not feeling the best. We still went down to physical therapy and while we were there a nurse came down to get a blood sample from Dillon. It was pretty neat how they did it actually, not like anything I have seen in the States. They used this little needle that looked like the blood sugar needle but there was not cover on it or anything – it was just he needle. They stuck his finger and then used this long, thin, glass straw-like tube with dropper on the top to suck the blood up. She then put a drop of the the blood on a microscope slide and some into a plastic vial with some sort of liquid in it. She squeezed the plastic vial then covered it up. She took another glass microscope slide and smeared the drop of blood all over the other one. She then took it all away. About an hour later they told us Dillon’s while blood cells are at 16, normal is 10 or lower. So he must have a slight infection in his lungs.
We let Dillon rest all afternoon and are doing the natural antibiotic and chest PT as well as nebulizers. He has tons of secretions! We did take him for his massage this afternoon, but he coughs a whole lot.
PLEASE pray we can get this infection taken care of soon!
Tonight we made some dinner – veggie soup. Mom bought a green pepper, onion, potato, tomato, carrot (and two small bananas) for a little less than a dollar!

Our veggies that cost less than $1.00
.

This is what they use as an oven, it seems to be very popular here. It just sits on th counter top
.

Cooking in the kitchenette
.

Our soup turned out pretty good!
We also have been washing our clothes and hanging them to dry since laundry is so expensive. It is very humid so the clothes don’t dry unless we hang them here where the air conditioner blows on them a little. Then it take a day or two for things to dry, but at least it is cheaper than sending it out.
.

This is how we dry our clothes, on a circle hanger with many clips
.

The clothes hang by the window where the air conditioner blows a little air on them
Now after all that not so good news are you ready for two pieces of good news?
1. In physical therapy they roll him side to side and try to get him to bring his hand to mid-line. Normally he does not do anything and I have to bring it over. Today, however, he brought it over one time on his own! It isn’t huge progress, but it was a little step of improvement. We will see if he does it again…
2. I think Dillon has the infection because he swallowed his secretions into his lungs….he swallowed! I think! We see him doing this thing with his mouth that looks like a swallow a lot…all day long he has been doing it! More than ever before…so I am thinking that if he is trying to swallow more it is only logical that sometimes he wouldn’t be swallowing right and it is going into his lungs. So even though he is sick and it isn’t good – maybe in a way it is…. So please pray he would continue to try to swallow, that it would be successful, and that he will recover from this quickly!
Thank you!

Dillon resting after therapy
August 8th, 2009
Well Dillon’s first spinal is done! Two to go!
Dillon literally had the best night last night that he has had the whole time we were here! I was supposed to feed him at 12 and 3 then wake Mom up and she would take over. I started his food at 12 then I fell asleep and didn’t finish his food. Mom came in around 2-2:30 and woke me up! I feel so bad that I slept instead of feeding him. I am just not used to functioning on 4 hours of sleep plus little 10 minute naps at night. Anyways, Mom let me sleep then and she slept in this room and fed him. But she said she was able to sleep more last night while caring for him than any other night. And he must have been very good while I was in here, else I wouldn’t have been able to sleep for those two hours.
For breakfast we had our Dragon Fruit.

Breakfast - Dragon Fruit
.Here is the inside. I have learned a few things from the Dragon Fruit – the old saying “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” Outside it looks bright, colorful, exotic, fun, etc. I thought it would have this colorful inside, but inside it was white with black seeds. I also thought it would have this amazingly exotic taste, and it didn’t. It is actually quite bland. It was good, but nothing woo-hoo about it. JayDonn did like it a lot. He ate the most of it.

Inside the Dragon Fruit
They came around 10am for Dillon to take him down for the spinal. Here we are walking him down the hallway.

Leaving the room for the spinal
.I wanted to quick get a picture of him and I but he was covered by the blanket. But he really is under there somewhere. I didn’t take another on though because we were waiting for an elevator and tons of people were staring at us as it was.

He really is under there somewhere - see the hand?
.They had said to wait in the OR waiting room, but there were SO many people in there and they were all looking at us that the translators told me to go back to our room to wait. He said the doctors would call when Dillon is out of the OR. There was the head of the Pediatric department (who we see almost every day), the doctor who did the procedure, another doctor, and maybe others were in there. Normally the head of the pediatric is not in there, if I understand right, but he wanted to be in there to be sure everything would go right. I kissed him good bye and watched as they took him back. Then I came back to the room and the three of us knelt down to pray for Dillon. We have been praying that God would dry up the secretions during the procudre, which didn’t seem likely since he slept all night (means he didn’t cough all night and would have tons of secretions). I was only here for about 20 minutes when the translators, Bill and Sid, came to get me because Dillon was done. Mom and Jay walked with us but didn’t go up to get him becuase there are so many people in the waiting area. When we got there they said we had to wait a while until he wakes up and 5 seconds later they were bringing him out! I asked the doctor how the secretions were during the procedure and he said they didn’t have to suction much at all becuase he didn’t have any! AMEN! God answered our prayers! We prayed he wouldn’t! They also told us they didn’t use much of the anesthia, just enough to keep him from moving.
Grandma and Jay seeing Dillon after the procedure…

Dillon going back to room after spinal
.We s in the 3rd building back and the OR was in the first building. So we left one building, went through another and then into our building and up to the 3rd floor.

Going through the middle building to get to ours
.

Going outside to our building

almost there
. nurse had to go get an IV pole so Bill was holding it for us. He told us to take his picture, so we did.

Bill - the impromptu IV pole
.JayDonn playing with his crayons near the little house we built for him. He is getting overwhelmed with all the people coming into the room and trying to hold him, kiss him, touch his cheeks, etc. so I am trying to let him go in his house if he wants to get away instead of what he has been doing. He is scratching his neck and face if someone touches him and he doesn’t want it. He doesn’t know what to do, how to tell people that it is too much so he is scratching his own face. We are trying to teach him not to do that so I am trying to give him something he can do instead. The people just love him and at first he liked the attention, but I think it is getting to be too much for him since he isn’t sleep well too. He keeps getting woke up in the morning and from naps. Instead of being able to go back to sleep people are taking him out of the crib so then he is up, long before he should be. Right now he is sleeping very well. He has been asleep for about 3 hours, which is his normal nap, but I don’t think he has had a nap this long since the first day or two.

JayDonn playing near his "house"
.Dillon laying flat after the lunbar puncture. He has to be flat for at least 6 hours. We couldn’t feed him for 3. But he has had his food now and did ok and will soon be allowed to get up a little. He keeps lifting his head, I think he wants to get up and move around a little.
That’s my boy, he’s a fighter!

After lumbar puncture.Poor baby!
After the spinal they had to run the rest the other part of the stem cells…. see they took the stem cells out and injected that into the back but the rest of what you saw in the bag the other day was nerve growth factor and they can’t inject that high volume into the back so the finish it up via IV.
THANK YOU FOR PRAYING! God answered our prayers – it went great! We have 1 IV and 1 spinal done. Two of each left. The next IV is on Wednesday. Please pray now for improvement. We have talked to a few people who said they started to see improvments after the third injection…. pray!
August 7th, 2009
Let’s see… today started with the doctors coming in and talking with us. They wanted to put Dillon on an antibitoic “just in case” but we talked with them about the fact that it is so hard on Dillon’s body and shouldn’t be used unless needed so they agreed to wait and only use it if needed. We talked about what medicine Dillon can use for the spinal injection tomorrow. Then we had the normal acupuncture in the morning. This time Dillon cried a lot during it – he even had two tears! He has never had tears with a “cry” the only time he has had tears it has been more like his eyes watering, but these were realy tears! Poor baby! It must really hurt!
Therapy went well this morning, nothing new happened there. After the first therapy we decided to walk to Vanguard again (the supermarket).
.
Getting ready to start our walk…

Going to the store
.
Outside the hospital is an area where all the bikes park….

Bike parking lot
.
Trees… Dad K likes trees so Mom asked me to take pictures of some of the trees.

There is an area outside the supermarket where the bikes park too. It is pretty full usually!

Dragon Fruit… we bought one today but we didn’t get to try it yet. One of the translators told us it is good. Maybe tomorrow.

I love this sign I saw in the hospital today. We noticed several things in the store today that have spelling errors like this. Anyone who knows me, knows I can not spell, so I can relate to these signs.

gotta love it!
.
Dillon was given ice therapy again today. Here are some of the pictures from it. I don’t think he likes it too much, but it is good for him.

Dillon doesn't really like it!
Friday morning at 10-11 am (which is Thursday night at 10-11pm for people back home) Dillon will be going to the OR for a lumbar puncture. Normally they do these in the bedroom, but they are putting Dillon under sedation for it so they are taking him to the OR. PLEASE BE PRAYING FOR HIM! He is at a HIGH risk for aspiration while he is under. Please pray he will not aspirate, and that God would dry up his secretions while he is under. Also, please pray God would be with the doctors and guide their hands as they do this procedure. We will let you know how it goes. Afterwards he will have to lay flat for at least 6 hours to prevent a spinal headache.
Thank you for praying, I am pretty nervous. But I have to remember that God brought us to China for a reason and the whole point in coming was for the spinals so I have to trust that He will be in control tomorrow. I know there is nothing I can do to protect Dillon, he is in God’s hands.
August 6th, 2009
This morning when Mom woke me, Dillon’s heart rate was very high and had been for a few hours. He was moving like he wanted his belly. So we put him on his belly and within a few minutes he threw up some milk. He then went into a coughing spell….which normally means it went into his lungs. So we started him on the natural antibiotic right away. The doctors then came in and we told them what happened. They listened to his lungs and thought he does have an infection. We told them about the natural antibiotic and how it has helped him in the past so they looked at it and thought it was good to try. Then they did the acupuncture and my parents were on skype so they could see. For the first time, Dillon did not cry out during it! I don’t know if he is getting used to it or if it was the Tylenol we gave him for the high heart rate that made the difference. I guess we will see tomorrow. Then we went down for therapy and the director said she thought his breathing sounded better today than any other day! Go figure! The picture below is JayDonn sucking his thumb during Dillon’s therapy because he is tired.

JayDonn is tired
So Grandma took him outside for a walk. This is a view from an area outside the hospital…

Outside the hospital
Here is another outside picture with Jay

JayDonn playing outside
I took Dillon to his other therapy session by myself and forgot to take the camera. They were doing something new with him too. They had what looked like popsicle sticks with gauze wrapped on the end that had water on it and was frozen. They used these to rub up and down Dillon’s neck and to massage his throat, cheeks, chin, etc. He, of course, did not like it too much. However, we did see a lot of tongue movement during this! If they do it tomorrow I will try to get pictures.
Both Mom and I are having trouble with our stomachs. It isn’t that they hurt, it is just that we believe we have eaten something that has been contaminated and it is effecting our bodies. PLEASE pray we get over this soon and that Jay will not get it! Mom has had it for about 3 days and I have only had it today. It causes problems every time we eat, even if it is crackers that we brought from home. We have read it is very common for travellers to get this and that it usually lasts less than a week but can last up to a month! Please pray for us!
Below are two pictures of Jay and I reading a book together. He can be so sweet! His favorite game is still “nuggle” and we have to get under a blanket with him and have a tent over us. It gets a little old when you play it 20 millon times every day!

Mommy and Me time
.I just love his face in the picture below! He gets so excited to see the pictures in the book, especially if the pictures has animals.

Look at his face in this one! I love it!
.Dillon resting in his wheelchair. Now if you know how Dillon normally acts this is very unusual. Dillon normally does not like to be in his wheelchair and he fights it. But the today and yesterday I have left him sitting in it when I brought him back from therapy and he has sat with his breathing perfectly quiet for hours both times. He coos while sitting there but his breathing is so good and quiet. I don’t know why he likes it, maybe he is just so relaxed from the massages in therapy that he doesn’t want to fight. I am not sure, but it is good to hear him breathing so great.

My Dillon resting in his chair
Now he is in bed and making only a little noise. I will put him on his CPAP soon. Mom is getting some sleep first tonight and I will take care of him until about 3, then she will take over and I can get some better sleep. When one is caring for Dillon in this room, the other is sleeping on the couch in the room with JayDonn. It is the only way we are surviving! We are both so tired all the time from not getting more than 5 hours of sleep at a time every night for a week now. Jay has TONS of energy, then again he sleeps about 10 hours solid and takes a good 2 hour nap every day…I think I would have more energy if I slept that much too!
August 5th, 2009
Today was just another day. Dillon started with acupuncture again. Grandpa K was able to watch via skype. It isn’t fun to watch though as Dillon almost cries from it. The needles in the neck don’t seem to bother him – because his muscles aren’t tight there. The arms hurt a little (today was the first day he cried from the arms). But his legs hurt the most, but his legs are also the most tight. As much as it tears my heart out to listen to his crying, I know it is for his good.
A little later the translator, Jason, came in and of course Jay got him to read again. Jason was also teaching us some Chinese words. He is very good at explaining how to say it and what it means. He explained some of the Chinese characters and what they mean too. Mom and I are trying our hardest to learn a few words every day. Some of the words we now know pretty good are; head, hair, pillow, yes, no, bed, thank you, hello. Chinese is very hard to learn! Our mouths and tongues just don’t move like that!

Jason reading to Jay again
Dillon had PT again this morning, but it was pretty much the same as last time so I didn’t get any pictures. He had the electrowave therapy for 20 minutes again. He seems to be very comfortable during the therapy. Then we had lunch. Mom K wasn’t feeling like eating too much so I ordered something I thought would be pretty good. Vegetable soup and more of the rice we know we like. I don’t know what was in the soup. It was sour and spicy. And it had green leaves of some sort in it. We both tried a little, but it was not like our vegetable soup at all. The rice was good though.
Then, Grandma was trying to catch up on sleep since she was up most of the night with Dillon. I tried to write some Chinese words. I wrote a note saying “Hello, My name is Dillon K. I am American. Thank you. If you give me your email address I will write to you. ~Dillon” I want to hand write a thank you note when we leave and these were the only phrases I could find in my phrase book. I took the note to one of the translators to see if they could read it without knowing what I was trying to write. They could! He said it was very neat. He said my English handwriting must be neat – I showed him and he laughed and said no it isn’t! But then a Solider walked up and the translator handed him my note and told him it was my first attempt at Chinese symbols….he said my handwriting is better than his!
The solider, who I have never seen before, then asked if he could take a picture of JayDonn. They all love him, even upon meeting him for the first time. So anyways, I found a website that lets you type in anything you want and it translates it into simplified Chinese. So I am going to work on writing a better thank you note.
Then we went to therapy again. We decided to let Grandma stay and rest while I took the boys. I went to another building first to get JayDonn some ice cream. He really is being a good boy considering we have been away from home for a week now and been stuck in two little rooms the whole time. The picture is Jay eating his ice cream while Dillon is working on therapy.

Ice cream
Dillon seems to enjoy the therapy. He was cooing during it and even trying to lift his head. He was moving his arms a little while on his belly too. They ladies are so good with him. They are teaching me different pressure points and ways to position him. They told me I can get the rolls they use for positioning at the supermarket here so I think I will try to find a couple.
.

Relaxing during therapy
JayDonn – always the goofy kid. He is so sweet. I love him. During therapy in the morning he was on a little stool with wheels and was going over to Dillon’s head and giving him tons of kisses! He is a good little man (most of the time!)A couple people today asked us about Jay’s double crown. They don’t see that much in the Chinese people. They think it is cute.
.

Being goofy
My other little man. Isn’t he beautiful? Most of the ladies comment on his beautiful skin, his long eye lashes and his “angel skin”.

Dillon working hard
Dear everyone,
Please keep praying for me. I am working so hard everyday to try to get better. I am even going through 8 needles every day, not including the needles for the IVs and the spinals that I will have later this week. I am working in therapy every day too. Please keep praying – pray with faith. Pray believing that God can and will work a miracle in my life! Your prayers have been answered in that I am here, so just keep praying for me to make huge improvements! Remember, we are praying to the One who created everything, the Great Physician. He can do something wonderful in my life.
Love
Dillon

Everyday we get to talk to Daddy, Grandpa and Grandma S and Grandpa K. We love skype! By the way if you have skype please add us, we would love to chat with anyone we know. So Jay has started kissing people on skype. You can see in the picture below…

- JayDonn kissing Pappa, he also kisses Grandma and Daddy!
They brought in a lamp to make Dillon’s bed area a sterile enviroment. We had to be out of the room for 30 minutes while it was cleaning the air and the surrounding things. It is pretty neat, this way they don’t have to take the patients to a different location they can do the treatments right in the room. Below is the lamp…

Making a sterile enviromentThe nurses were having a hard time looking for a vein for the IV. I started looking and they gave me a turnicate so I could try to find one. We found one in his leg and the nurses tried but the blood clotted too fast and they had to pull it out. So we gave Dillon 3 ounces (which is a lot for him) of water and waited about 30 minutes. They tried a vein in his other foot and the same thing happened. So they called in a nurse from the pediatric floor and while we were waiting for her I was putting hot wash clothes on his arms. The nurse was able to get it on the first attempt. Below is a picture of us trying to find a vein...Dillon's vein are very hard! And he is going to need several more in the next three weeks!Looking for a vein for an IV

The nurses tried so hard to get an IV
For lunch we ordered fried rice, it was the best thing we have had so far. It is so good! Plus it was enough to feed all three of us for only 0.50! I like the prices here! (well, of everything except the laundry!) Below is a picture of the first time JayDonn tried to use Chop Sticks! He was so cute and actually pretty good!

Jays first time using chop sticks
Liquid gold! I have heard that expression before but these umbilical cord stem cells are just that. They are clear but golden in color and hopefully will be more valuable to Dillon than gold! The first pack of stem cells are in my hand below

- The wonderful stem cells!!
Hanging the first stem cells! There they go! There was confusin about a medicine they wanted to give before the stem cells to keep Dillon’s body from fighting off the stem cells. However, it is a steriod and will cause his blood sugar to go very high which is very dangerous for his diet. So after Josiah confirmed with Dillon’s hospital back home that we can’t do that they wanted to do benadryl but the hospital back home said that may not be safe either. The Chiene doctor explained to me that it is just Chinese custom to give these medications but they aren’t needed. It is just to prevent a fever. So he decided we would give the stem cells and then just watch close to be sure he didn’t get a fever. They came in about once every hour at first, but his temp was perfectly fine. So he got his first set of stem cells! There are new, unidentified cells traveling in his body that are looking for a new home. His brain may be getting new cells right now!

The nurse is hanging Dillon's first stem cells
Celia is one of the nurses here that loves JayDonn pieces! She came in today, on her day off, in her Army uniform. She is a solider! Her husband used to be one, but is now a police officer. She wanted to get pictures with Jay on her camera so I got some one mine too. They just love JayDonn so much around here!

Celia and JayDonn
Celia and Jason with JayDonn. Jason is a translator and Jay just loves him. Jason was playing with Jay and throwing him up in the air and spinning him around. Jay wanted Jason to read one of his favorite books to him so he did.

Celia, JayDonn, and Jason
Celia started reading one of JayDonn’s book to him and he loved it. I think Celia liked his books too! I think they like to practice their English, not only verbally but with the written language. She is very good at reading. She said she doesn’t pronounce words right, but I told her so is so much better in English than I will ever be in Chinese!

August 4th, 2009
I am a little behind on updating, so yesterday was the Lord’s Day. We started off with me up a little before 6 and Mom finally got to catch up on some sleep. In fact, she was still in bed when the cleaning ladies came at 9.
Then we chatted with some of the nurses who were here on their day off. They really seem to care about their patients! I mean I don’t know any nurse in the States that goes in to see her patients on her only day off! Then we made scrambled egg sandwiches for breakfast and of course JayDonn ate a banana. After this we watched an archived sermon from my brother-in-law – Daniel’s – church. They have tons of services on their website so we are able to watch them while we are here. The one we watched was on Aaron and his sons and was called the heart of the matter. It was very good! JayDonn sat still and watched for 15 minutes with us. I let him down after that and today we would like to get him to sit for 15 minutes again and then in a few days work at sitting a few minutes longer.
After our church service we put the little man down for his nap and Mom and I were able to talk, read our Bibles, shower and that kind of thing. Oh - the hot water is on from 7:30am-10pm approximately. Then after Jay got up we decided to take a walk to the supermarket that I went to the other morning. We loaded the boys all up and had a baby carrier for Jay. We discovered Mom wasn’t lost the other day, she just wasn’t sure of where she was and stopped 1/2 block short of where the KFC was! Crossing the street with Dillon is so scary. Cars literally will not stop for you. And you think pushing a child like Dillon would make them stop to let us pass? Think again! We each held a side of the wheelchair so that no one could hit him without hitting us first and Jay was on my back so we didn’t have to worry about where he was. We were literally going across the street and saying “STOP!” “WAIT!” and “GO! RUN!” but we got across.

See all the bikes in the background?
pics

This is right outside the market - but you can't see it in this pic
Once in the market it was very strange. We already feel so out of place and disoriented but then literally everyone stops their shopping and looks at us. Some smile, most just look confused and amazed. I don’t think they have seen a child like Dillon before. Two elderly ladies were trying to ask us about him put we weren’t able to understand what they wanted to know. They saw us again later and were rubbing his arms and head. They seemed like sweet little grandmas!
We got a lot of things while we were shopping. We walked all around the food part and were trying to decide what to get. I saw the word “Bakery” and thought you can’t go wrong with baked goods! So we decided what we wanted but couldn’t find the little bags to put it in. We were trying to watch other people to see where they got it from but had no idea. So I got the translator out and put the word “bag” in and went to one of the workers and showed it to her. She was still confused so I started to pretend to take the food out and show that I had no where to put it. She yelled out a word and then pulled a bag out from her apron pocket. So we got our food, which was 10.00 YAN per kilo and went to the scale to weigh it. I saw her put in 20.00 and the price came up for it. I had no idea how to say that I knew she charged me double what she was supposed to, so I didn’t say anything.
Mom got Dillon 3 little towels, she got one for her mother-in-law that looks very Chinese and she got herself one. A plain white, nothing on it, can’t tell it was bought in China one….I have to get her to buy herself something a little more “Chinese”!
I got a pair of sandals that aren’t too comfortable but look cute and remind me of the Chinese style I have seen a lot of the nurses wearing on their days off. They costs 1.99 which is about 0.35 for us. We got a special hanger to hang our clothes on to dry since laundry is so expensive. (4 days worth is going to cost us over 30.00 – in our money!) We also got some bread and little snack crackers. We also got two bottles of juice.
They have so many “sample people” set up in this store it is really neat. The young lady who was letting people sample the juice we got knew some English and another man who was giving out samples knew a few words in English. Other than that though, there is no hope of finding someone who understand English and since we know nothing of Chinese….
Of course JayDonn has to go potty while we are in the store. So I use the translator and put in the word restroom. She was able to point me in the direction I needed to go. The bathrooms have toilets right on the floor! I have never seen anything like it before! It didn’t make a bit of a difference to Jay, though.
I also found a cute little Chinese dress for my niece. It was so cute I think I am going to go back and get one to keep for if we ever have a little girl. It was on sale for 50% off so it was about 3.00.

- If it weren’t obvious enough that we are not from around here – Mom kept taking our picture!

The meat market
While we were in line we could see all the ladies from what looked like a pharmacy stopped working and stood in the door to watch us. And trust me, I am not over reacting they really were. Then a few people started saying something to us and motioning over. We thought they were telling us we had too many items for that line or something. Next thing I know a lady is taking Mom (with Jay on her back) and Dillon away from me! I started to worry because I couldn’t see where they were being taken. Then when I did see, they were on the other side of the cash registers coming towards us but the Chinese lady was pushing Dillon, not Mom. I was getting ver nervous about what was going on, but Mom called to me “we’re coming.” I guess they thought the wheelchair wasn’t going to fit down the tiny isle where the register was and wanted her to go around. They were probably right about that, but I had no idea what was going on and where they were taking all my family. My heart was pounding till they got back to where I was and then I wanted to get out of there as quick as I could!

This is after Mom, Jay, and Dillon came back to me!
Then the walk home…. This time Jay was on Grandma’s back and we were both pushing the wheelchair. We did the same thing as on the way, RUN, STOP, GO! Most of the walk is on the sidewalk so it isn’t bad, there is just the one main intersection we have to go through. I saw the hospital and was so glad, I felt home. I was ready to go in and be “normal” where everyone isn’t staring at us. It is a weird feeling, but I have decided I really like our hospital room/floor and am not in too much of a hurry to leave it! It is really cool in China, but I don’t want to go out too much by myself and the only way for Mom and I to go together is to take Dillon…and that is much harder than it is back home!

Mom walking home - again see all those bikes - they will literally run you over!
We ordered in KFC for dinner after our little walk. All Jay wants to play all day long is “nuggle” (snuggle) and tent. So Grandma made him a tent that isn’t on our beds and he loved it. And then I was so tired I fell asleep.

Dillon had another hard night – I think he is still on Eastern time instead of China time. PLEASE pray the boys would sleep tonight so we can sleep. Mom and I are SO tired. I got to sleep 9-12 then was up till 5:30 and got to sleep from 5:30-7. PLEASE pray we can get more sleep at one time tonight. If you read this during the day – we are trying to sleep right now.
Today Dillon had his second acupuncture session. He yelled out so loud during it, I think it must hurt him. It was like he was crying! It is the closest to a cry that I have ever heard from Dillon! But it was over quickly and he was fine. Mom and I feel so bad listening to him yell out like that, but we know it is only for a few seconds and that the potential for helping him is so great that we need to continue with it.
One of the translators took me to a market several blocks away. We decided to walk instead of a taxi so that if I want to take Dillon with me sometime I know how to get there. As we were walking I was trying to watch out for all the bikes, scooters, and cars. I turned to ask something and next thing I know the translator was reaching out for me and I was bumped in the arm by a person who was riding a bike and hit me! Ok, note to self – be very very careful of the traffic! So we went to this super market that was so cool. It was like a Walmart with how much stuff they had but isn’t set up like that at all. It is on two floors and has an esclator – but it is a ramp instead of steps so people can take their shopping carts up. I got a few things we needed and headed home. I saw there was a KFC right beside it and thought it might be nice to have that one night for dinner.
In the late morning we went to the PT room for an hour. They did a lot of range of motion with Dillon and then did some electrowave therapy for 20 minutes. The electrowave therapy feels like a very light vibration. They put it on the flexer muscles to encourage them to want to flex. Since he is always in extension they are trying to get his muscles to flex on their own. He seemed to enjoy all the therapy.

A little later in the afternoon we went for OT. During the whole OT they did massage therapy. It is a special technique they use, but I am not sure what it is called. Dillon relaxed into all this and went to sleep. His muscles were so loose and relaxed he was even cooing at them. They are going to teach me some of the pressure points for different things and how to do the massages before we leave.

Can I have a turn next? It looks like it feels so good!

This is Michelle she is the translator that picked us up from the airport
Mom decided she needed out with JayDonn. So they were going to walk to KFC for dinner. Only I was the one who went this morning not her. So AFTER she left I remembered that I never told her how to get there. About 40 minutes later Mom and Jay come in and Jay says “Lost!” They had no idea where they were and Mom could tell it was starting to rain so they found their way back, never coming across the KFC. She even forgot to take the little transltor we have. Thankfully she did remember the card that has the name of the hospital in Chinese on it so any taxi driver would be able to get you back. But Mom found it without needing a taxi.
So then we decided to order out for pizza, only the translators said they won’t deliver in rain. He told us that KFC will, though. Great! Back to the KFC for dinner. So we saw a menu and decided what to order. The translator called to order it for us, but the phone number isn’t working. Ok, so we are back to ordering from the restaurant in the hospital. We decided on Roast Chicken (less than 5.00), a fried pancake (.15), and a vegitarian food (whatever that means for .15). The meal came and it looked beautiful! The chicken was on a large plate sitting on lettuce and had the sauce (grease) all over it. Looked great! Mom was holding Dillon so she told me to serve it up for us. As I cut into it I realized… when they say whole chicken, they mean WHOLE chicken! So I tried not to look too close and got us each some meat. It tasted pretty good. It was red meat – not red like under cooked but red as in just the color of the meat. Tasted a little different than any chicken I have had, but was good. Then I went to cut more and had a hard time with what I was seeing. I got Jay off a bunch of meat and he LOVED it. He ate more of the chicken than anything else since we got here. So anyways, Mom came to look at it after she finished her meat. Inside this chicken were the legs – claws and all. The head, beak and comb and all. I am NOT used to this kind of thing! So then Mom started to dissect the parts we had not eaten!

on the left you can see the claws on the right is the head

Mom looking to see what all is there - I didn't have a stomach to do this to something I just ATE!
