We would like to thank you all for your messages of support. They have been most welcome. We did get your previous message, Pauline, but it must have got lost in the ongoing computer problems that we have had( sometimes it worked but mostly it hasn’t). Richard has to confirm each comment for them to be included.

MS STATUS – Still not as good as back home. I go up and down. Sometimes I can walk a bit without need of support and other times I can hardly stand. Again, have to finish the LPs(just 1 to go) and wait and see.

We are reading our books slowly so as not to run out of them. Hoping for UK newspapers in Beijing for the flight home. We have each read at least 7 books each and in Hangzhou we were able to leave those we had read and take some replacements. However, there are no English language books in the Hainan hospital. To compensate we have been doing 2 Observer crosswords each day(The Telegraph crossword is out as there is no printer readily available here). We have tried the DVDs on offer, but, to us, they are difficult to follow due to poor copy quality, the sound and lips not always matching, the US accented speech and poor sound quality(and we are probably half deaf anyway).

Weather is still cloudy and cool. The fruit here is so much better, sweeter and juicier, than at home.

When we use a 100 Yuan note(7GBP), the chinese taker studies it at great length. We presume this is because the chinese are so good at copying everything, they expect the money to be copied.
