22nd December 2009 (20 hours after 3rd spinal injection)

ESA did not sleep well last night.  At around 7.30 pm last night he showed early signs of a ‘fit’. We manage to calm him down. He slept quite late after long hours of idling on the bed shifting his head from right to left.

On the whole, he behaved well and very obedient. He got up at 6.30 am this morning and after his morning routine, we will be bringing him for his 9th acupuncture session.

After his acupuncture session he had lunch and about 1.45 pm just before his afternoon nap, he started to show signs of  ‘fit’. We managed to calm him down and after that he had a good afternoon sleep.

21st December 2009 (3rd spinal injection)

Everything is ready for ESA’s 3rd spinal injection by 10.00 am. He was wheeled into the operating room at 10.30 am. By 11.15 am  he was wheeled out.

He was taken to his room and had to lie flat without a pillow  for 6 hours. He got up by 6.00 pm and had his meals. The nurses took his pressure and temperature and everything is normal. He did not show any unusual reaction such as fever, vomiting or  any other signs of abnormalities.

When he woke up after 6 hours, he was cheerful and obedient and behaved well.

19th December 2009 (3 days after 2nd spinal injection)

ESA woke up at 7.30 am this morning. Did his morning routine and was ready for his 9th acupuncture session by 10.00 am.

ESA took his acupuncture obediently and seemed to like it. In the middle of it all he dozed off for a short nap. After the session, we took him for his morning walk around the hospital compound. the weather was cold and we had to cut short the morning walk.

He slept the whole afternoon after having his lunch and the day passed smoothly. ESA is eating and sleeping well.

18th December 2009 (2 days after 2nd spinal injection)

ESA woke up at 7.00 am today and as usual cheerful and smiling. He slept well last night but was interrupted once when he wet his bed. The night was cold.

He is using his left hand more widely such as removing the hat whenever we put it over his head, better grip and is able to hold with a good grip a piece of biscuit when given to him. He eats well and his bowl movement has normalized to its regular daily pattern.

We are carefully observing these improvements noticeable in ESA’s behavour and whether they are the direct result of stem cell therapy or merely resulting from the changes in the environment he is being placed in or from the excitement generated by the activities he has encountered during the trip to Guangzhou, the hustle and bustle of nurses and doctors in the hospital and travel stress.

ESA took his 8th acupuncture session today.

17th December 2009 (20 hours after 2nd spinal injection)

ESA slept very well last night. Woke up this morning at 6.30 am.

His response and adaptation to the 2nd spinal injection seems to be better than the 1st spinal injection.

His noticeable improvement since stem cells therapy are :-
1. His limbs are more relaxed and movable.
2. His response when talked to is better.
3. He is using more of his left hands and fingers to touch, move and push.
4. He is holding his head up better and more often.
5. He tries very hard to focus both of his eyes.
6. Generally more cheerful and happy.

After his daily routine exercise, we will be bring ESA for his 7th acupuncture session this morning at 10.00 am.

16th December 2009 (2nd spinal injection)

ESA woke up at 7.00 am this morning. We are preparing him for his 2nd spinal injection this morning.

He has been sleeping at night without a pillow for about five days now since his first spinal injection. His head movement has improved noticeably.

ESA was wheeled into the operation room at 10.00 am and he was wheeled out by 10.45 am. He was semi-awake when he was wheeled out. He was put to lie flat on his bed without a pillow. He was obedient and did exactly much to our surprise.

Since 10.00 pm last night, no food and water was given to him. We will give him food and water by 4.30 pm. He seems to be happy and cheerful as usual.

15th December 2009 (4 days after 1st spinal injection)

ESA got up early this morning and is happy and cheerful. The Doctors on routine daily check noted ESA using his left hand more than he used to, is more responsive when talked to and his limbs are more relaxed than before.

After his routine exercise, we brought him for his 7th acupuncture, but the Doctor was not available. He did not receive his acupuncture.

In the later part of the afternoon, we tried to let ESA hold an empty Gano bottle. We noticed that he can grip the bottle and to our surprise he tried to move his hand towards his mouth trying to bite the bottle. Then we let him hold a biscuit in his right hand and then he began to move the biscuit with his right hand to his mouth and ate the biscuit.

We will improvise this action and train him to hold the food which he will eat on his own instead of feeding him. This is a subtle but tremendous improvement.

ESA will be going for his 2nd spinal injection by 10.00 am.

14th December 2009 (3 days after 1st spinal injection)

ESA woke up a little moody this morning. Didn’t  sleep well last night, wet his bed about six times. The weather was a bit warm.

This morning, we brought ESA for his 6th acupuncture session. After the acupuncture session we took ESA for a walk around the hospital compound.

His mood improved towards the afternoon especially after the afternoon nap. So far no unusual changes health wise. The Doctors on their routine rounds confirmed him to be as usual and normal. He is eating well as usual.

13th December 2009 (2 days after 1st spinal injection)

ESA got up this morning as usual 6.30 am, cheerful and responsive. He has since the 1st spinal injection been sleeping flat on his back without a pillow. Noticeably, he raises his head more easily when awake.  We should continue to train him to sleep without a pillow so that he will get used to straighten his head naturally.

Being Sunday today, it is a rest day for ESA.
