60 days after stem cells treatment in Guangzhou

We have stopped giving ESA the medication given by the Doctors in Guangzhou from the middle of February so as to avoid any long term side effects that the medication may potentially bring. So far since, his noticeable improvements have not deteriorated and have remained stable with very subtle progress.

His awareness of his surroundings is better and his response when talked to is more alert. We will continue to monitor his progress in the next 30 days.

1st Month After Treatment

After returning from Guangzhou on 31st December 2009, exactly 30 days now, we have been continuing the medication given to ESA by the Hospital. We have finished the medicines and will procure them locally whichever is available.

The last 30 days  were anxious moments for us.  Is ESA going to improve further on the noticeable improvements gained in Guangzhou since undergoing stem cells therapy. Is he going to progress further , stabilize or degenerate from his noticeable improvement which basically are :-

1. His limbs are more relaxed and movable.
2. His response when talked to is better.
3. He is using more of his left hands and fingers to touch, move and push.
4. He is holding his head up better and more often.
5. He tries very hard to focus both of his eyes.
6. Generally more cheerful and happy.

From our observation for the past 30 days, we have yet to see any progress of his noticeable improvements. We will continue to observe in the next 30 days.

30th December 2009 (2nd Intravenous Injection) Final stem cell injection

Today is ESA’s final stem cell therapy and will be taking his 2nd intravenous injection which would be his 6th stem cells injection.

There is a door like the ‘Gate of Heavenly Peace’ – the ‘Tian An Men’ ; that separates the brain cavity and the rest of the body; a natural barrier of defense, protecting against any infiltration by diseases or viruses from the body spreading into the brain.  This door at times in extreme cases may open up due to decline in the body’s natural resistance resulting from weakness caused by disease or intrusion of virus or other parasites into the body; thus infecting the brain. Whether the stem cells injected through spinal and intravenous injection can pass this door into the brain cavity and be delivered to do the intended repair therein is a question difficult to be determined through any scientific means or be documented under any medical process or procedure.

This perhaps explains the reason why the patient is first weakened by not drinking or eating anything for at least 12 hours before the stem cells are injected; to weaken the body so as to induce a condition for this door to open up. I may be totally wrong in my analogy, can someone, a Doctor perhaps please enlighten me on this matter.

BEST WISHES FROM ESA : MERRY X'MAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010

WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED, PLEASE WAIT FOR THE NEXT TRAIN -” KNOCK AND THE DOOR SHALL OPEN & SEEK AND THOU SHALL FIND ”

Noticeably improvement during the 30 days treatment stay in Guangzhou, howsoever subtle they may be, is very encouraging and has shown that our actions taken are in the right direction; speculative as the case may be. Whether these improvement are the direct result of stem cell treatment will be know in the months ahead. A continuous effort to enhance the improvement will be pursued persistently. But if the door is closed for ESA, we can only wait for the next train and will continue to knock and endlessly seek.

Upon returning home, we will be updating ESA’s blog on a monthly basis. We can only pray ; for what we can humanly do in taking the first step, the rest we must leave it in the good hands of The Almighty. God Bless ! to all the people , the Doctors, the Nurses, Miss Emily Russell, Miss Maesie, Mr. Torress and Mr. Michael who have all endevoured their very best to have made our journey and stay in Guangzhou as a pleasant, smooth and comfortable experience. Thank you all.

29th December 2009 ( 4 days after 4th spinal injection)

After a good night rest,  ESA did not developed any cold, his resistance may have improved. He got up this morning cheerful as usual and well behaved.

We took him for his 14th acupuncture and the last this morning and everything went through smoothly. We said goodbye to the acupuncture Doctor who was very caring during ESA’s treatment.

Just as we are getting to learn more of living life with Chinese characteristics, the time has come for us to leave. The anti-climax of the 30 days stay in Guangzhou Provincial Hospital TCM is setting in smoothly. Two families have completed their treatment and returned home and three new patients have checked in.

ESA will be taking his final stem cell injection (of 6 in total) by tomorrow – second intravenous injection. Like the Chinese saying “the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step”.  Have we taken that single step ?  I truly believe we have. And the next step and steps to come depend on us to follow up persistently throughout to see the end of the journey.

Learning to walk, talk, to see and all other normal activities which are visibly lacking in ESA can be liken to putting in the software in a computer. There must first be a compatible hardware to support such inputs.  Stem cells treatment in essence is like building the hardware; improve the memory and brain capacity first and thereafter to follow by inputs of the “software”. It is for these reasons that we have opted out from giving him physio therapy for the moment. For the moment, we continue with his daily physical exercises.

28th December 2009 (3 days after 4th spinal injection)

ESA got up this morning a little moody. Looks like he is about to catch a cold. The weather was a little cold yesterday.

He went for his 13th acupuncture today. A little moody and resisted the Doctor when she tried to put in needles into him. After his lunch, he slept well until late afternoon. On the whole he behaved well.

27th December 2009 (2 days after 4th spinal injection)

Cheerful and happy has been the mood since yesterday. He slept and ate well. Today being Sunday is a day of rest for ESA , no acupuncture session.

This morning, we noticed ESA gripping the railing of his bed with his right hand trying to support himself from falling from the bed. This an unusual response because in the past, he was unaware of his balance or unable to respond to maintain his balance. In the past if he falls he fell like a jack fruit.

26th December 2009 (20 hours after 4th spinal injection)

Six hours after the 4th spinal injection yesterday, ESA was given food and was allowed to sit up. He was cheerful when given food and was very eager to imitate when talked to. Mumbling sounds as if he is talking.

He got up this morning at 7.15 am and was very cheerful more than usual. We will be taking him for his 12th acupuncture session by 10.00 am this morning.

ESA - PREPARING FOR ACUPUNCTURE

ESA has been sleeping since yesterday afternoon and only woke up at 7.30 am this morning. There is nothing much to note of any progress in respect of his noticeable improvement so far, however he is now sleeping more than usual. His sleep is more deep in the sense that he is not easily awaken by the opening of doors or any surrounding noise. Even if he is awaken, he would doze off after a few moment.

Looking at him sleeping soundly, I cherish the thought that something inside him must be growing fast; his brain must be growing up fast to catch up with lost time; bridging the missing links he has endured all these years.

We are taking him for his 11th acupuncture this morning and will be preparing him for his 4th and final spinal injection by 10.00 am tomorrow 25th December 2009 (Christmas Day 2009).

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE – GOD BLESS !
