12th December 2009 (20 hrs after 1st Spinal Injection)

ESA woke up this morning as usual at 6.30 am.  He slept normally last night. He has not shown any signs of any effect caused by the lumber puncture he had 20 hours ago, such as severe pain , fever or other abnormalities.

We will be going for his 5th acupuncture session today.

No noticeable changes in his behavior other than that he is using more of his left hand , his limbs are not as stiff as they used to be and generally more alert as can be noticed from the movement of his eyes. He is eating well as usual.

11th December 2009 (1st Spinal Injection)

Today is ESA’s 1st Spinal Injection. The Doctors have decided to sedate him through general anesthesia. He will be put to sleep during the procedure of lumber puncture. This procedure aims to inject stem cells direct into his spinal cord to access the brain unlike intravenous injection through the blood stream.

ESA slept well last night and got up at 6.30 am. We are preparing him ready for the the procedure before 10.00 am.

ESA completed  his first spinal injection at 11.20 am this morning. Everything went smoothly without a hitch. He is to lie down flat on his back for 6 hours as required.  He appears to his usual self after waking up from sedation. He must very hungry by now since we have not given him anything to eat since 10.00 pm last night.

10th December 2009 (3 day after 1st IV injection)

ESA woke up early this morning at 6.30 am after deep snoring night. Cheerful and happy. Thank God,  so far since arriving China ESA has not had a fit even after the 1st IV injection.

In addition to the stem cell therapy , the treatment that have been administered to ESA include Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicines and Acupuncture and Physiotherapy.

Today ESA is going for his 4th acupuncture treatment after which he must rest for the rest of the day in preparation for the 1st spinal injection to be administered tomorrow.

9th December 2009 (2 days after 1st IV injection)

ESA woke early this morning after a fairly good night sleep. His mood is cheerful today and we are preparing him for his 3rd acupuncture treatment by 10.30 am.

The Doctors came for their daily rounds at 10.00 am. and checked on his conditions and were happy to note that his hands and legs muscles are less tensed than the time when he first came. The Doctors suggested that ESA be sedated when spinal injection is administered this coming Friday 11the December 2009 for his 2nd stem cells treatment; to avoid any struggle that they expect he would do and more over, he needs to lie flat with no pillow for 6 hours after the injection.

While wheeling him to the acupuncture room today, we noticed that ESA was using his left hand to hold tightly on the arm rest of his wheel chair. This is sometime he has never done before with his left hand. He usually does it only with his right hand, and while lying down waiting for the Doctor to insert acupuncture needles , we saw him scratch the bed with his left hand. His hand and legs are more relaxed and more responsive to move.

We are anxious for the next stem cells treatment by way of spinal injection this Friday and pray that he will be receptive.

8th December 2009 (24 hrs after 1st Injection)

Last night ESA had very little sleep. He seemed restless , more energetic and extra active. He was more alert and more responsive when talked to.  We observed also that he tried very hard to use his eyes to focus around him moving his eye balls from left to righ in a more rapid fashion.

These reactions observed after more than 10 hours after the first stem cells injection may be purely due to the excitement from the activities of the day where he was wheeled to the treatment room and the from the changes he was exposed to in the treatment room. As is known, the effects and improvement from stem cells treatment can be felt and noticeable in about 3-6 month time.

We are excited to meet Emily Russell for the first time , the Representative from Beike for ESA who has made an extra effort to travel from Shenzhen to Guangzhou and to meet us today.

7th December 2009

ESA got up early this morning at 6.00 am to start his morning routine. Should get him ready for his 1st stem cells injection by 9.00 am.

His mood is very good after a good night sleep. We have stopped giving him GANO for the time being.

At 10.15 am , ESA received his 1st Stem Cells injection through intravenous injection (IV). He was very obedient and did not resist when the needle was pierced into his left hand. He was receptive all the way until the drip was fully discharged.

After the injection, he appears to be happy behaving normally. There is nothing markedly noticeable change in his behaviour. All went well and we are happy so far. God Bless.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ESA

Today is a special day for ESA; his 30 birthday. A special day to prepare him for his 1st stem cells injection tomorrow.

After 6 days in Guangzhou, getting acquianted with the hospital surroundings and daily routine, the people , nurses and doctors; the feeling that we are at home away from home has set in smoothly. ESA is slowly beginning to get use to his special toilet chair for his routine moring discharge. We can now take sample of his stool which the nurses have been waiting for since we arrived on 1st December 2009.

Preliminary test results according to the Doctors show that eveything, his blood, lungs and other body functions are normal except his cholesteral level is a little bit on the high side. The conditions of his brain however, the Doctors said is not better than that of a 2 year old baby. As such the development/healing process may be difficult in such a case. In any case, the Doctors said that they will do their best for him.

From my physical observation, ESA is a 1 month old baby for the last 30 years. The crucial question is whether stem cell therapy is effective under such conditions or is stem cell therapy an option for him. We cannot find any better way to deal with ESA’s state and conditions. We will be approaching the moment of truth soon.  We can only pray and wish him every success. God Bless.

Had 2nd acupuncture treatment for ESA today. Struggled slightly this time when the needles were inserted.

Today, we also received the stem cells treatment schedule for ESA as follows:-

30 December 2009           Wednesday                  IV

(IV=Intravenous Injection) (S=Spinal Ijjection)

ESA will be receiving his first stem cell injection on 7th December 2009, exactly one day after he turns 30 years old on 6th December 2009. We will be celebrating his birthday in Guangzhou in China. We pray and wish for his successful recovery.

Each time whenever I talk to him, I have always asked him whether he wants stem cells. Always in all ocassions his response is “mau ba” meaning;  yes I want it. Some how it seems he understood me and I do believe it is his feeling that the time has come for him to get out of his predacament. God Bless.

4th December 2009

After a morning walk arround the compound of the hospital, ESA is preparing for physio therapy this afternoon about 2.00 pm. Feeling a little tired after yesterday’s MR scan and sedation, a little moody behaviour is noticeable in him.

While waiting for the result of the preliminary tests, which we are hoping to be favourable, we are expecting that the Doctors can confirm a treatment schedule for ESA as early as possible.

This afternoon also before going for physio therapy, for about 15 minutes,  acupuncture was administered on ESA.  Surprisingly, he did not struggle as the acupuncture needles were inserted.

Mr. Torres was very helpful. Yesterday at about 3.00 pm, he brought us downtown Guangzhou for shopping for some of our daily necessities. Generally Beike representatives has performed very well to our expectation. Thank to them for making this trip pleasant and comfortable so far.

3rd December 2009

ESA slept very well last night. He was only awaken by the Nurse at 6.30 am to take sample of his blood for testing.

Surprisingly, ESA was very calm when the Nurse took his blood, much to our surprise. We had expected that he would struggle and resist the needle. He behaved very well , calm without making any move of his hands.

The weather is getting colder each day as winter sets in. ESA loves the cool weather and is getting accustomed to wearing heavy clothing.

Completed the UltraSound scan by 10.00 am today and this afternoon at about 2.00pm the MR Scan. ESA may have to be sedated to so as to keep him still while scanning.

After the MR scan , ESA was rather tired and slept throughout the afternoon. Had an early night and went to bed by 7.30 pm after taking some chinese herbal medication. He was snooring deeply by 7.45 pm.
