truth serum
May 12th, 2007
JC had his 4th stem cell injection and he did not get the headache ( good news). He asked for the seditive injection this time to make him sleep for the 6 hours. It didn’t knock him out cold but it did help him not to want to get up. He drifted in and out of sleep.
I told him before he asked for it that it might act like a truth serum and all would be revealed, like you see in the movies. I expected him to tell me that I was the best wife and mother, that he couldn’t live without me, how lucky he was to have me, how I was his everything, the air he breathed, I wanted a Tim McGraw/ Faith Hill video. So when he started to mumble something, I bent down beside him and said softly ” don’t worry I’m right here”. Here it comes, I am ready for all of his confessions of total and complete utter devotion, Harlinquin romance novel material. He whispered “pizza, Papa John’s pizza”. I calmly told him that I ordered it special for him so that he would have it ready for him when he woke up.
He mumbled again, now this is it, probably going to tell me how really sweet I am and thanking me so much for ordering it for him and that I always take such great care of him. He said “cheese sticks, Papa John’s pizza”. I heard about Papa John’s pizza five more times throughout the 6 hours until finally I knew that the only way I was getting a Faith Hill/ Tim McGraw video is if I watched it on the internet so that’s what I did.
JC felt good the next day except his back and leg muscles were very sore. So he did all the usual routine except for the swallowing collar because he was afraid of the headache. He should have taken it easy but for everyone who knows him, you know that “take it easy” is not in his vocabulary. He did something from morning until late at night, exercised and walked everywhere.
We have less than 2 weeks left and 2 free days. So we planned on maybe going to the zoo here because all the staff rave about it saying that it has some very rare animals. So we imagine white gorillas or 2 headed snakes but we found out that they meant racoons and deer, so we decided to skip this attraction.
They also have a beach here that I want to go to. For everyone who knows me, you know that I have never uttered the phrase ” let’s go to the beach” in my life. But here they figured out the secret to making going to the beach fun. People here are very modest about their bodies so they cover up on the beach. ALL the women wear one piece bathing suits with skirts or wraps and bikinis are nowhere to be found. When I invent a perfect world in my head this is exactly one of the things on my list, I can’t believe it really exists, I am moving here.
Next stem cell injection is on Monday.

Hi JC and Cherrie,
I have to begin to say that although we have never met Cherrie, you sound like such a great spirit and a wonderful person! JC is definately with his soul mate at his side.
I am so moved reading these blogs and the progress that is taking place. Keep it up Jayce, I am amazed on what you are going thru plus with the separation of your family, I can only assume how challenging this all must be.
Anyways I am so happy to read that the improvements are already so significant and you still have the other 1/2 to complete.
Take care, Tracy

Hi Cher & JC,
Sorry for being so late to the game but the “family” (yes you know who you are) have fallen short in letting me know this site existed. It is awesome to read everything you guys have written from the beginning; however, I am sure the rooms next to me here in the hotel in Toronto think I am crazy. Sitting here laughing out loud like a crazy person. You are truly an inspiring person and I am so glad to hear about all of your adventures as well as being able to keep up on JC’s progress.
I guess you were the lucky recipient of Grampy Porter’s sense of humour and ability for writing in a way that keeps all of us reading this feeling as if we are each there right beside you guys through this journey.
Great to see everyone’s comments as well.
We think of you guys very often and hope you are feeling the love and support you have from far and wide. All the best and take very good care!
Love Always,
Tony & Paul

Your comments yesterday Cherie were such a hoot. I had to get the other girls in the office to read them. There’s no doubt in my mind that you guys will see this through. And just in case you were wondering about the weather here – well tomorrow is May 16th and Environment Canada says we can expect 5 to 10 cm’s of SNOW!!!!! Only in New Brunswick!! Take care guys!! I don’t think I told you this but Caleb got an A+ on his report on MJD – teacher said it was very original and well done!!
Thinking of you every day!
Mary Lou
