January 30th, 2009

As you have all deduced by now, the blog site crashed for the luna new year!  And this is a holiday that lasts and lasts and lasts.  They are vague about the length of the holiday…keeping it in the gray area…some say 15 days and some say a month.  So the web site fixer guy finally showed back up yesterday and we are back in bidness.

Catch up time.  Monday must have been New Year’s Eve and what a sight it was!  The fireworks have been amazing and everlasting since the minute we got here…day and night and day and night…but on New Year’s Eve…baby you ain’t seen nothin!  It started at 4pm and at midnight there was an onslaught like you’ve never witnessed that lasted until about 2:30am and then suddenly for the first time since we have been there, there was complete silence for about an hour.  This must be part of the ritual, because I am talking not a single pop…what were they doing for that hour?!?  Must find out?

Jeff had a treatment on New Year’s Eve (spinal) and it went better than the first two but still a bit slow to get in.  They are having a hard time with his spine.

I have been running by morning and Jeff and I have done lots of walking around together by afternoon to grab some lunch.  We’ve had a wide range of dishes and proudly we have never resorted to KFC or Pizza Hut…wouldn’t do it at home, why would we do it here?

Tuesday night we went to dinner at the New Century Grand Hotel with every single patient on this floor.  It was fun and interesting to hear everyone’s story.  The more you hear, the more the stem cells are validated!

Wednesday Jeff had a spinal that was the quickest one yet, however they touched a nerve that ran down his leg to his foot and he laid in bed for about 4 hours afterwards with his leg bouncing up and down.  After the 4 hours was up, I walked the hospital with him and that seemed to help.  Dr. Courington always recommends movement for a cure…imagine that!

Yesterday we walked out for a traditional Chinese lunch and had a fun and hmmm interesting lunch.  It was a nice foggy rainy day all day.  We will send some your way.

Today, is Friday.  Jeff has one more treatment.  We think it is today, but communications have broken down.

Our plan is to do stem cells today.  Lay low on Saturday.  Go spend the night in West Lake at the Hyatt on Sunday night.  Come home (hospital) on Monday afternoon.  Go get a full out foot scraping and pinching on Tuesday and then head on back to Austin on Wednesday!!!!

Peace out!!!!

xoxo

Woot! I was concerned that you’d broken the darn thing, Sara, but apparently the foibles of technology do not know borders. It is also wonderful to know that you are still doing well and, by now, no doubt, counting the hours. HOB is doing well, picking up a nice end-of-the-month bump from Project Grad and the 3-course dinner!

Folks around here say it got cold the other day, but after what we went through in D.C., it weren’t nothin. The weathermen went nuts and they closed the schools early and then, of course, nothing. Not even a drop. There were some accidents, but I think it was the placebo effect ;^)

What’s for sure, kids, is the fact that we miss you. Not to worry Sara, you may work the very moment you come home, but just in case you’re feeling a bit lagged, know that I am here, as it were!

Well, now that the blog is back you’ll have some time for another post or two and feed your readers’ habit.

How many LOLs can say they’ve suffered Severe Blog Deprivation?

We’ve been experiencing some genuine winter weather, since last we blogged. Had icicles on the eaves the other morning. Now I’m ready for spring – been thinking a lot about dillo dirt and compost. Come home and we’ll dig in the dirt (and dish the dirt).

We’re delighted to hear about Jeff’s progress!

    Love,
    Jo

Just reviewed your pics – my favorite is RT Mart parking lot B, with the pagodas on the hill in the background. Looks like Old China meets New China, doesn’t it?

Welcome back ,your absence has been auspicious. Yesterday was my day off, and i checked 3 times. Where’s J&S?. I reviewed my blogs to double-check for subversiveness that may have gotten you detained, but i’m clean. We had a nice little ice storm up here in the northern part of the great state of “you know”early Tues. morn, but it should be in the 60′s today. Glad your time left is growing short. So, Happy New Year and continue to hang in there. Much Love-GLS

So glad to finally hear from you 2. Had me a bit worried.
Am excited to read about the two of you doing so much walking around. Way to go Big J. Dr. C – you are one amazing person and I feel very fortunate to be included in your circle of life.
Will return to blog later this evening to see what else is up.

Okay! You are back, I got an email from Jeff that the site was on vacation briefly and now see that I need to catch up!
I am so glad to hear about Jeff’s progress and hopefully all of the treatments will result in improvement. It’s also good to hear that you have not resorted to any of the fast food outposts (with the exception of DQ which of course originates in our home state (remember, we cannot use that word here…I wonder if F*#% it would pass? I need to catch up on the pictures too; did y’all take a video camera? They have a new one specifically for online and computer screens that is a real gem and incredibly cheap! It’s called flip video, check it out!

As far as the fireworks, I do not know if the comment I posted on the subject previously was one of several that did not make it on to your blog while it was on hiatus but as you may already know Marky and I are both fireworks junkies and at one time considered adding the business as a sideline but paused long enough to realize it would be like a couple of winos running a liquor store! However we Rae still very much into the voyeur and recreational aspect of fireworks and would thoroughly enjoy the show(s)

It’s so weird and a bit alatming about the nerve in Jeff’s leg, it’s good that Dr. C is in the house to recommend movement and I hope it’s better now. I am sure it will go away entirely but then again, it might be interesting to scratch behind his ear and see if his leg shakes…oh my, I did not have to say that but…I’m sure he laughes when he reads it anyway
    !
I am happy that Jeff IS progressing and that you two are together doing this! You both rROCK and I will see you soon.
