3rd spinal update

Well Josh is back in the room and he seems to be doing good. We’ll know more later when he can get up. Things went really good today during the procedure. It didn’t take as long as last time and they gave him a little more valium. He is trying to rest right now and get his 6 hours over with. I’ll write a new blog tomorrow and tell how he’s doing. In the past,  he hasn’t had any bad headaches or anything. Just a little soreness in the back. Keep you posted…melissa

Ocean Polar World

img_0690-640x480.jpgJosh had a good time at Polar World. It got us out of the room for awhile. It was different that’s for sure. We saw a walrus, sharks, polar bears, penguins, dolphins, seals, etc. Mom says hi to everyone at Brenda’s. The same for me to everyone at Bobbie Sue’s. We are getting very restless and are so ready to get back home. We talked to Kirshner last night and she said we may need to give Josh one more spinal treatment while he is here because of his size. So, we’ll see. Maybe we can trade his last iv for a spinal. I guess we’ll talk more about it when the time comes. Anyhow, I guess I’ll get off of here. The nurses should be in anytime to get josh’s iv started for his fluids before his spinal. Talk at cha later, mo, josh, and wilma

Ocean Polar World

img_0665-640x480.jpgWe went out Friday to Ocean Polar World. It was pretty neat. We had to get out of the hospital for awhile. Josh has his 3rd spinal today(Monday) so we’ll be here all day. Hopefully things will go good today. Kirshner is here right now. Things tend to go a lot smoother when she is here. A lot of new families have arrived this past week. They come from all over the world to get help here.

I’ll try and do a blog later today with an update on how Josh is doing. Please pray that things will go better this time.

p.s. mom and josh are standing in front of some penguins in this picture

Love and miss everyone, mo, josh and wilma

Josh’s 2nd spinal update

Well, Josh had his 2nd spinal yesterday. It didn’t go very smoothly. He’s doing good today though. It took a little longer than expected. We were getting worried. When they finally brought him back down, Josh said they had a hard time finding the right spot to put the needle and had to poke him several times in the process. Then they hit a nerve that shot pain down his right leg. At one point he said he actually heard like a scraping noise. I had the doctor come by our room to ask him what the problem was. He said that he did hit Josh’s bone at one point but it wouldn’t hurt him in the long run. He said that because Josh is thicker than a lot of the patients here that it is harder to find the right spot to inject him. Apparently, we can expect it to take this long for the next 2 injections also.  I wasn’t too thrilled to here about the bone scraping. Hopefully next time they will be more careful. I will definately relay that message. We haven’t got his schedule for next week yet, but we are assuming his next spinal will probably be Monday. We may try and get out a little today. It has been raining almost non-stop for 2 days now. It is very gloomy here 99% of the time. We didn’t realize there were mountains around us for the first 4 or 5 days we were here because of the fog. Some people are talking about going to the mountains with one of the translators to see some of the tourist sites. Today that really doesn’t sound like much fun. I don’t want Josh to overdue it so shortly after a spinal. He is getting acupuncture right now. He’s feeling pretty good except for a little back pain. He has a couple of bruises on his back though. I guess I’ll get off here and go get him. Talk at cha later

img_0604-640x480.jpgHere’s Josh sitting on the bed in our room listening to music. We just got back from town a little while ago. Tomorrow he will have his 2nd spinal injection. We hope everything goes well. Yesterday several adults and children got spinals and almost everyone of them got sick. The most common sickness was vomiting. Some had really bad headaches and backaches. It’s really weird because everyone had been doing so well. We’re not sure what the problem was, but we’ll keep a very close eye on Josh. He’s a little worried about it, mostly because he doesn’t want to lay on his back for six hours but he knows he has to. After tomorrow, we’ll be half way there(yay!) We can’t wait. We appreciate everyone blogging. It’s one of the highlights of our day to read them. We miss everyone and love you bunches.

Getting out

img_0573-640x480.jpgWell we all three finally ventured out to the Jimo Market today. It’s about four stories tall with everything you can possibly imagine. They love to bargain there. You will not see prices on anything. You just walk up and say how much. They will punch in a number on a calculator. Then you punch in a counter offer. It just goes back and forth until you both agree. At first it was really weird, but after awhile it’s kinda fun. This pic is all three of us outside the Jimo Market. We figured we’d go out today because Josh has his 2nd spinal injection tomorrow. We’ll be in the room most of the day. We are missing everyone terribly! We are ready to get through this and get back home. It’s neat getting to visit in another country but there’s no place like home. Please pray that Josh’s treatment will go well tomorrow. Josh says tell everyone hi. He enjoys reading all the blogs from everyone. It definately brightens his day. hugs and kisses to everyone

Eating at the Paradise Club

img_0494-640x480.jpgThis is Josh and Braden eating at the Paradise Club. It’s really close to the hospital. Josh tried lamb chops for the first time and said they were excellent. We also ordered desert and the waiter actually came over to Josh and helped him take the first bite. You couldn’t have asked for sweeter people. You will see the table in the picture. It is lower than our knees. That took some getting used to.

Wings on a stick

img_0561-640x480.jpgWe went to KFC yesterday. They still say they don’t have shrimp sandwiches so Josh got wings on a stick. He said they were pretty good.

Checking in

Josh is scheduled for his first injection in the spinal canal today. The nurse just came in and put an iv in his hand and is giving him fluids right now. They say stem cells love fluids. He is supposed to get the injection around 2:30 pm. The whole procedure is supposed to only take around 15 or 20 minutes. When they bring him back, he’ll have to lay flat of his back for 6 hours. He can slowly roll over on his sides, but he is not supposed to raise his head up. I guess it has to do with keeping the spine straight.

Sorry it took me so long to get some pictures on here. I still haven’t figured it out 100% but I’m getting there. I appreciate everyone’s comments. It’s nice to here from everyone back home. Mom says hi to all her customers. She misses all her people from the rest. We are already home sick. We are slowly getting more used to things here. Everyone says it’s hard the first week. We love and miss everyone. Please pray for Josh that his treatment will go well. Thank you…

Melissa

Walking the streets of China

img_0470-640x480.jpgWe were walking around one day and we saw this woman selling bottled water. We bought a couple and I held my camera up. She came running up and wanted her picture taken with all of us. She was very sweet.
