2 more days!

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

We are all getting so anxious to get home! Yesterday we went to West Lake and toured the Pagoda.  It was really amazing and to get to see all of the antient art in there was a life time experience.  You can go up to 5 floors and on each floor you can walk around the outside of the pagoda and look at all the scenary.  It was so beautiful, you could see all over West Lake and Hangzhou.  It was really hot though, so when we were done touring the pagoda we went into a little shop at the bottom and bought fans.  I never really understood why fans were so big to the chinesse until I actually came here lol.  We then went to dinner at the Yoho Cafe, it’s an Italian resturant.  It was SO good!! I wish we would have found it when we first arrived here!  The food was amazing for being an italian resturant in China. On our way back to the hospital we drove along West Lake and caught the very end of a water show, it was really neat!  We are glad we got to go out and visit more of China and it’s beautiful scenary!

Kade has been doing awesome!  For the past few nights Kade has been waking up and going to the end of his crib where I leave all the toys.  He has a drum toy that lights up when you hit it and before he really wasn’t that interested in it and now at night he will go to the end of his crib and play with it.  Everytime he hits it the lights on the drum go off, so we think that he is more interested in it now because he may be able to see the lights when he hits it!

Everyone here in the hospital is getting sick, so all of the nurses and staff are walking around with masks on to try and not spread whatever it is that’s going around.  Only 2 more days left so I hope none of us get really sick!!! We have been staying in our room for the most part becuase we don’t want to catch anything.  Tonight everyone was planning on getting together to have snacks and drinks, but who knows how many people will actually be able to go now.  Well we can’t wait to get home and see everyone and we will write again one last time tomorrow!

Love,

Annalise, Steven, and Kade

west lake and stevens experience of eating dog!!!

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

okay okay… so he didnt eat dog (thank God).although he tried really really hard to find a place that served it. i guess its off season for dog and they dont start serving it until october. but he did try quail eggs, sheep, and a couple other odd things. ill have him post pictures for everyone.

West lake was sooooo gorgeous! we took a tour of the Pheng Pagoda and it was just phenomenal. the very top floor had gold ceilings and is said to be built in the 6th century! it was so hot though so we did not get to enjoy west lake as much as we wanted to. we did how ever find a great italian restaurant afterwards. it was even alot better than some places back home which was real surprising.

The hospital is a little crazy right now. there is a cold going around and of course, Steven is starting to feel a little sick and Kade has been coughing a little too.  well thats all for now. Two more days until we have to back up and start our journey home. we will try to get in another blog before we head home but the internet connection here hasnt been doing to well so, no promises.

Last spinal

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Kade had his last spinal today and we’re so glad that it is all over. Today they tried giving him valume but it just made him hyper and cranky. so, then they gave him the medicine through the erector (butt) but he still did not want to fall asleep. The doctors also informed us that he was really difficult this last time and they had to call in another doctor to hole him down during the procedure. in the end he did fairly well. Were glad it is over with though. As of right now we still have two more hours to keep him on his back but he seems to be doing fine and in an okay mood. he has kept us busy today though. as far as his teeth go, he has one cutting through his gums and seems like there is two other on their way. kade has grown so much in the time we’ve been here. he has finally learned how to stand on his own and we are now working on him getting him self up from a sitting position. it was very satisfying for us to hear from other patients that they think kade has improved in their eyes as well. on top of all that, he has gained two pounds since weve been here!!! Another satisfying thing that Steven got to witness while i was in the shower is when the doctors did the light test on his eyes, he reached up to grab the light twice!!! the first time they moved the light from his right eye to his left and he grabbed it very quickly. the second time they went from his legs toward his left eye and again grabbed the light (didnt respond as quick though). so that alone has made this trip well worth it.

From here on out, were free to do whatever it is we want. our flight isnt until saturday so i would imagine being out on the town a little more.  Thanks to everyone who has been a consistent reader and everyone for their support. we will continue to write more blogs about what we do with in the week.

1 Week to go!!!!

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

yes!!! We have one more week here, then we finally get to come home! Can’t wait!! Kade has been good, he had a little fever yesterday, but we gave him some motrin, so it’s under control now.  Nothing really exciting going on we are just hanging out in the hospital because we don’t want to chance getting Kade sick and then having to stay longer.  So….it’s pretty boring, but hopefully after Kade’s last treatment we can go out and do some more site seeing before we leave.  Well nothing really else going on, we just thought we would write a quick blog since were’re bored lol. Write again soon!

Love,

4 Down … 1 to go!!

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Kade has four treatments and has one last one this up coming monday. His spinal went very well today, although, he was not asleep at all for it. They gave him some medicine to sleep and again did not give him any valume. He seemed to do a lot better than last time, and was a happy camper when they brought him back out. He was talking and smiling for about 2 hours after the procedure and then finally feel asleep.  We thought keeping him on his back was going to be difficult, but Kade has been really good about laying down.  As far as improvemetns go, we have seen a number of little things.  For example, his eyes, in my opinion, have started to dialate more, he’s more confident in everything he does like crawling, standing, which he has been standing for longer periods of time.  He also has been turning his head both ways, where as before he would only turn his head a little to the left to get some type of stimulation.  We think it may be because he is seeing some light or getting some kind of stimulation from each eye.  Another thing that we have noticed is he is talking a lot more and is starting to understand what you tell him.  For example, we let him crawl on the bed and if you tell him to find the wall he will crawl to it, (sometimes), and right before he gets to it, (most of the time), he will put his hand out and feel for the wall.  Some more things he does, is when you tell him to clap his hands, he will, and when you tell him to say words like mama, dada, go, uh-oh, wow, he will repeat what you told him to say.  This, however, may be from just developing age wise, but on the other hand we would like to think it is because of the treatments.

Kade has his last treatment on Mon, but we don’t leave until the following Saturday, so we will have a lot of time to kill, and money to spend lol.  We can’t tell you how much we are excited to almost be home and continue our journey for the next couple of months, as Kade hopefully improves even more.  We will write more soon….and pray that we get some sleep tonight lol.
