Our last post in China – We’re coming home!!!!

Keiran has cracked his final joke in China:
What did the Shepherd say to his sheep?………..Let’s get the flock out of here!! Hahaha!!

We’ve had 2 days off for good behaviour and spent yesterday just having a bit of a quiet one followed by our last dinner at the Holiday Inn. Keiran had the buffet but I couldn’t face it (really not wanting to eat any more out here).

Today we really had to get out of the hospital to help the time pass, so we went out with the ‘Jameson’ family from Texas. Headed down to Polar Ocean World……..which was a bit of a let down from the last time as we missed the Dolphin Show due to Charlie & the lack of Chinese understanding English & vice versa!!! We then had some lunch in a Hotel downtown – the restaurant was on the 35th floor & revolved (very slowly). The views across the beach were fab!! Then we headed over to Jimmo for a quick stop. For some reason, I wasn’t in the mood for shopping………..strange cos I love shopping lol!!! It just didn’t seem fair to take Keiran into that place – it’s not nice!!

Came back to the hospital, gave our gifts to the nurses & translators. Bless them, they do a gd job bearing in mind the resources they have. We said our goodbyes to some of the families……….it’s quite sad as some of the new faces on the block seem lovely. We’ve exchanged emails & will stay in touch to see how everyones doing.

I AM FINALLY PACKED & can’t wait to come home!!!!!!!!!!! In just over 5 hours we are leaving the hospital!!!! Just a shame that it’s going to take us 21 hours to get home……..

Keiran & I will see you all shortly in Blighty but for now Zàijiàn

Final Treatment #8 via Lumbar

Yesterday afternoon was Keiran’s final treatment!! It was nice to know that he will not have to have any more needles stuck in his body!

Nurse Linda fitted his cannula with no problems & was done in seconds. Just a case of waiting around until 4pm to go up for the final time.

I’ve spent the past few weeks having to chase Dr Tony up on his ‘Dr Visit’ slots. He really doesn’t seem interested in the care of Keiran. I think he could do with taking a look at his ‘people’ skills’ and think about patient care & how to speak with families!!!!! After chasing him up for most of the day……..he finally came in the afternoon , with an attitude, & gave us the results of the VEP test. It confirmed what I actually thought – there has been no improvement this time around :( Keiran is upbeat & after I had a 5 minute blip I pulled myself together & focused on what mattered most …………….My SON!!! He’s been terrific through everything again & he’s still the same happy, most wonderful young man – who I am so very proud off and nothing in the world will ever change that!!!! I love you Keiran for who you are :) !!!!!

As Keiran went in for his last lumbar………..the same horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach lingered!!! Standing outside the doors for the last time really wasn’t any easier. He was a superstar again!! Valium caused him some discomfort again this time around but other than that no complaints. 6 hours of laying down soon passed & he was up eating and laughing. When he went to bed at 11pm he was out like a light, in seconds. As for me, I was exhausted as I’d only got about 3 hours sleep the nite before. My back pain is not easing & with the added stress of lumbar day I ended up throwing my guts up & spent the day/eve feeling quite drained.

Only 2 more days to go out here in China and we are coming home. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone, especially the girls & can’t wait to ‘smell home’. Both Keiran & I are looking forward to our own beds!!!

Loads of love

Sorry – Internet’s been playing up!!!

Sorry we haven’t posted over the past few days. The internet has been temperamental and I’ve not been feeling 100%. I’m suffering with back pain!!

Wednesday Keiran and I went for a bit of relaxation & headed out for a massage. It was lush!!! Although, Keiran and I didn’t enjoy the bit where they had their fingers in our ears. We managed to get in the kitchen just after 7pm and cooked a roast. It’s good to cook out here as it helps pass the time BUT it’s a nightmare trying to get in the kitchen. They could really do with having a larger one & having more cooking appliances & utensils. It’s nowhere big enough for the 16 families that are on the 18th floor!!!!

Thursday, Keiran and I were taken downtown to have another VEP test. We were very lucky as we were seen quite quickly & back to the ‘cell’ before we knew it. Forrest kindly came in and done Keiran’s afternoon therapy later.

We headed over to the shopping centre over the road & popped into get a few presents for the nurses & translators. I was planning to take keiran on the rides today but with a bad back was not a good idea. But he was fortunate at Jaden’s parents wanted to go on the roller coaster – so he was very pleased when they offered to take him on & I waited with Jaden. Thank you to Jill & Joe for making my Boy so happy!!!

Will be home really soon

Treatment #7 via IV & today!!!

Yesterday I had therapy and then had my cannula fitted – which went in first time by nurse Lucy. Had some lunch
; mum made me a ham omelette. My IV was at 3.30pm. After I received my stemcells we chilled out in the room before cooking dinner. We had Chilli Con Carne & rice which tasted delicious. Mum asked the nurse to take out my cannula before I got into bed.

Today the nurse woke me up at 6.30am to take my bloods – what a nightmare wake up call that was!!!!! They are checking my thyroid & growth hormone levels. I had McDonald’s breakfast which tastes just like home. Mum went downtown to the Jimmo Market & I got some ‘Boytime’ with Joe & Jaden for a few hours. We had chinese for lunch and it was good to have a break from Mum for a little while (I did say by day 20+ I’d be fed up with her). I am ready to come home now………I feel like Spencer last time around…….4 weeks is too long to be away from home. I had afternoon therapy with Forrest & then Mum came back, spoke to home and then Mum took me to Pizsa Hut. I had a massive popcorn pizza & starters………I couldn’t eat half of it and had to bring some back to the hospital with me!!
Got a taxi back as the it’s raining quite hard today and the puddles are huge out here so I had to wear trainers for the first time (instead of crocs).

We are chilling out in our room at the moment but think it’s going to be an earlyish nite as I’m a bit tired due to being woken up early to have my blood tests done.

Love Keiran xxxx

Treatment #6 via lumbar & a few days off

Sorry I didn’t post anything over the past few days. Ive been experiencing probelms with the laptop & then for the past 2 days internet has played up at the hospital.

Friday’s Lumbar went well. Keiran experienced no side effects & again has seemed to be ‘fine’ with it all. He did say that the Valium was painful again when they gave put it through his canula but that it only lasted for a short while.

Saturday he was up and moving around fine. Straight into therapies & not even a care in the world as if nothing happened the day before!! My young man is made of steel!!! We decided to stay at the Holiday Inn for the night Saturday. Met up with a couple of the other families and had a couple of drinks & dinner. It was so nice to be out of the hospital & even better to climb into a bed with a comfortable mattress & pillow. To add to our one nite of luxury we booked a room with a bath. Think I really kicked the ass out of the hot water; 3 baths & 3 showers – I was in heaven!!!!

Sunday was a free day so we had breakfast at the hotel & then headed out to Century Park for a walk. Keiran wanted to see if anything was different this time around. We went down with a lovely family from Texas. Even managed to hire a pedal boat & pedaled around the lake. It was really hot BUT between the 3 of us; we made it!!! Kinda cut the walk around the park short as the heat was quite draining so we headed back to the hospital. Perfect timing; just after we got back a thunder storm broke out!!

We are in single figures now until we come home!!! Keiran said that he didn’t feel so homesick this weekend as he knows he’s coming home real soon.

Love to all

Treatment #5 via IV

Yesterday Keiran received his 5th treatment. All went well again. He’s doing an amazing job with everything that’s being thrown at him!!!

Keiran does not usually have afternoon therapy on treatment days but Forrest knows how much he enjoys them and very kindly came and gave him his massage & cupping. It was so sweet of him!! He also told us that it was Valentine’s Day in China & told us about the myth that people believe out here. All the hospital staff seemed to be full of happiness lol!!

Only 3 treatments left and 2 weeks until we will be home. Can’t wait to see my girls & smell home!!!

Thank you to everyone for all your support & kind words…….it really is helping us both stay strong.

Love & miss you all

Yippeee – A day out from the hospital!!!!

Saturday & Sunday were days off. We had a huge storm Friday nite that woke me. The lightenng lit the whole of the sky………. it was like nothin I’ve seen before!!! Again Saturday morning we had the same freak weather!! Managed to go to the Holiday Inn Saturday with a couple of the families as Summer, Cody, Janet, Hanah, Amy & Liam left Sunday. Managed to spend a bit of time playing ‘Pounce’ with them Saturday eve; so gonna miss playing that game in the evenin with them all BUT it’s somthing that I’ll be taking home with me.

Sunday we got up to say our goodbyes and I wish them all the best & look forward to hearing from them all.

We booked Charlie (the driver) and Keiran & I went out with Jill, Joe, Jaden, Louissa, Kevin & Deacon downtown. It was great to get out!!!!! I don’t think it would have mattered where we went as long as we were not looking at the same four walls; going crazy! We visited the Jimmo market and had fun bartering with the locals. Some of them were sweet & offered Keiran a seat while I looked :) After a couple of hours there we went and looked around the Temple. Keiran enjoyed ringing the bell & feeling the vibrations on his face as it was chiming. We then grabbed some lunch at an American Diner; best food we’ve had & the first time we’ve had full stomachs lol. We headed down to the Pier afterwards. I’ve never seen so many people in the sea or on the beach. The water was not a pleasant colour & there was no way I would let Keiran paddle in it!!!! Although, if I dd I think we would have struggled to find a spot LOL.

When we came back to the Hospital……Keiran and I had a little Karaoke session & a huge laugh to feel like we were joining a party back home; my brother Jason, Stacey & Chloe are emigrating to Australia while we are away :( Gonna miss them heaps!!!!! Keiran was in hysterics for most of the evening and our faces were hurting so much from laughing. Laughter is definitely the best medicine & we slept like babies after having such a great day!!

Treatment #4 via Lumbar

It was an early start to the day. Keiran had his bloods taken at 6.30am……..not a time that we are used to seeing!!! Therapies as usual at 8.30am

Keiran had his cannula fitted in the morning (2nd attempt) and then it was up for stemcells at 3.30pm. I can honestly say that 20mins stood outside those doors doesn’t get any easier and the feeling in my stomach just doesn’t go away!!! Keiran said that the when the Valium was administered through his IV this time around hurt and gave him discomfort in his hand BUT that it didn’t last long. He’s a trooper again!!! No complaints; not even when he was lying down for 6 hours. He stuffed his Pizza, plenty of cuddles and then time to go to sleep.

He’s sparko…………………and I’m not far behind him. I’m shattered; both mentally & physically!!!! Although, I know I won’t sleep too well again tonite!!!

We are going to the Holiday Inn for lunch tomorrow as 2 of the families are heading home on Sunday. It will be even quieter without them around. Sunday, we are going to head out & do a bit of sight seeing as we really need to get out of the hospital and look at some different scenery.

Thank you for everyone’s encouragement. It means the world to me & it’s helping us get through are stay here in China. Woooooohooooooo, we are half way through treatment now!!!!! Just over 2 wks time we will be on our way home!!

Lots of Love

Day 14 – A Quiet Day

Today’s been a quiet day for us.

Ryan & Lindy came in & filmed Keiran while he was having afternoon therapy with Forrest & it was good to have some adult conversation for a short period of time.

It’s been a strange day……..I’ve kind of hit a low point today. Think it must be a mixture of knowing tomorrow’s another stressful day on Keiran and myself as it’s his 2nd Lumbar. Together with the fact that I’m missing the girls terribley!!! Feeling a little isolated and getting a little bit of cabin fever!!!! So today has been probably one of the longest days so far. Keiran’s also been a little bit on the quieter side; which is unlike him :( Tried to cheer us up with a nice roast dinner. Think it worked for a little while.

Early nite for us as Keiran is having his bloods taken at 6.30am before therapies & before treatment. Keiran is due to have his 4th treatment via lumbar at 3.30pm tomorrow afternoon. I will blog again once he’s up and about.

Missing everyone

Day 12 & 13 – Getting out for a while!!!

Yesterday we had the usual therapies………….seem to be getting into a routine quite well. Poor Keiran had the first shower in the morning and experienced the pleasure of it going hot & cold….Bless him!!!

We had a delivery of silk curtains yesterday morning. First I had a rose toilet seat & then silk curtains; I was beginning to feel like a princess……………..until I looked out the door & realised every room was getting them LOL!!!!! The only thing I don’t get is the fact that the new ones have gone up BUT they’ve not taken the old ones down! Why???? I really don’t know BUT I really do believe that there is no ‘why’ in China.

Had a walk out but it was too hot and only managed 40mins Cooked Spag Bog for dinner & stayed in the dining room playing cards & chatting to some of the other families in the eve.

Today we fell straight into our routine of therapies, lunch, more therapies & chatting on Skype. Had a bit of a chill out before heading over to a massage shop for a ‘foot massage’. Wow…….I’ve never had anything like it! We were there for 1hr30mins and had a head to toe massage. It felt good to have some time out & relax at the same time. Keiran thought it was hilarious as it sounded like they were beating me up. He thoroughly enjoyed his massage & they were a bit more gentle on him. Couldn’t believe it when I had to pay – It cost 100CYN for the both of us – £10 for two people for 1hr30mins!!!!!! Think I might have to treat us both to another one before we come home.

Still missing everyone like mad back home. Keiran had a 10minute blip yesterday where he got upset :( – so I’m trying to keep him as busy as I can :)

Love to all
