The time has come to say our goodbyes. We will truly miss our new friends and the families that we have spent our time with during our stay. We hoped to see them in the future. We are ready to go home, though. We miss our families and home dearly.

We had our final stem cell infusion via IV this past Monday. Kaelyn did great, as usual. The biggest issue was finding her vein for the IV. She was not a happy camper about being poked a number of times. We watched ‘The Avatar’ TV show and entertained her the best we could while the IV was running.

Kaelyn celebrated her birthday on the 4th at the hospital. K was the ‘princess’ for the day. She loved it!
We started out the day with Tia making cinnamon toast for K in Happy Bday letters. They were delicious!

Great start for the bday... Thanks Tia!
In the evening, a number of the staff, along with the families we have gotten to know while here, got together to celebrate her bday over a potluck dinner. We had a great time and got the opportunity to try out dishes from some of the other parts of this world, even a couple of the local dishes. K was extremely excited.

It was perfect considering that we were missing our regular family celebration.
And, then the following morning, she got to celebrate it all over again with the family via computer.

Our day started out pretty early today. Kaelyn had blood work done first thing and hated it! Right after we had breakfast. (Thank goodness for the new McDonald’s that opened up across the street last week, and let’s not forget the KFC! The boys went nuts when they found out that they were literally across the street from us.) Then, off to the mart (also across the street), to get some daily essentials and snacks. Finally, K had x-rays done and then, an attempt at an EKG. She was hysterical! It is still the New Year’s holiday, so the hospital is pretty quiet. It should pick up tomorrow, Monday. Overall, this weekend, we have become great UNO players and will probably wipe out my movie supply soon.

Settling in at the hospital
We arrived in Qingdao yesterday and headed straight to the hospital. We met our translator, Jack, and driver, Cliff. Both were extremely friendly. After being convinced that we all fit in the hospital room, we unpacked and prepared for the next month and a half. We met a number of the nurses and one of the doctors came by to do an initial evaluation on K. It looks like we will starting immediately after the initial tests are completed and everything is ok.

We have made it across the world to Beijing where our latest adventure with Kaelyn will start. We thought it would be nice to stop here before heading on to Qingdao to do some sightseeing and relax after such a long journey from the states. It was a long trip, but we made it in safely. Our anxiousness for now has subsided and we are taking in the new world around us. The airport was amazing in structure! We can’t wait to see the rest of what China has in store for us.
