Lydia has done very well after her last spinal.  We made it through the 6 hrs of post-op boredom.  She had a slight headache for a couple of hours, otherwise no problems.  The procedure seems to wear her out overall and sleeps a bit better for a couple of nights.  Her 4th and 5th(final) spinal will be on Monday and Friday of next week.

Today and the next few days a camera crew is around to film what goes on here and interview some patients and families.  I spoke with a reporter from the same crew last evening on the phone, she is interested in interviewing Lydia.  We will see how it goes.

Todays exciting news:  we did a test of Lydia’s vision today using a flashlight a varying points in the room.   At one point she was to walk to where she saw the light and another time was to stand still and point to the light.  We determined earlier that she was able to consistently perceive light at approx 6 feet in front of her(last time I tried it was about 1 foot in front).  We asked her to locate the light at these varying points around the room and she was able to do so with almost 100% accuracy.  The only time she didn’t go to the flashlight was when she went to a source of light coming from under the closed heavy curtains that was a stronger light than the flashlight.  This was the first time I have had her point to a light and she had a little trouble with hand-eye coordination but did exceptionally well for the first time!    Truly amazing!!!

Super! Sounds like things are going great. What would Ms Lydia like from home? I am going to try to send a package today. I will give it a try. If it does not get there by the time you leave that is okay as well. I have a nephew who lives there in China and they send him packages. I am going to try his family’s route.

I am so glad that the reaction to the stem cell went so much better this time and the good results keep coming.

Hi. I teach at Bismarck and am friends with Ms. O. I have been emailing Ryan Seacrest to let him know that Lydia has a crush on him. I haven’t had any response yet, but I thought maybe we could make this a group effort. Here are the email addresses for him, if anyone else would like to try to contact him. Maybe we can bombard him with our emails and see what he will do.

    Thanks
    Caroline

Hi, My grandson is 5 months old diagnosed with SOD.We have talked to Ryleas mom, and are following your story to see how things are going for Lydia. If you can give us any information.a contact person for these procedures in China???It would be appreciated. It seems so surreal, CHINA! So far away, it is hard to know the procedures to try and get these kids over there!!! Any information would be appreciated. We are ready to try and get him over there.just do not know how to go about it! Thanks and good Luck! Parris Cardenas

Judy and I are so happy to hear about the light sightings and hope that is a good sign and will improve. We also hope the “bug” is better soon! We know that vomiting is no fun.

We returned home from S. Georgia on Saturday, spent the day in St. Charles with Ann’s family at the death of Don’s father.

We’ll keep you in our prayers and hope to continue to improve. Look forward to seeing you at home soon!

Love you, Uncle Cleo & Judy
