Another week in the Big Brother – Tuesday March 13th – Sunday March 18th

Tuesday was a normal day, rehab in the morning and afternoon and Nick has a new therapist. We have been told his usual therapist; Dr. Lee has been moved to outpatient therapy. Rehab exhausted Nick, he has been doing a lot of stretching and muscle usage, so afterwards his energy level is low and he does not feel like doing to much. However he did want to get out and go to Walmart for a stroll around the store. After Walmart we stopped at Starbucks and sat outside to people watch. It was really nice for the both of us.
Wednesday, rehab in the morning and stem cell puncture in the late afternoon. Stem cell treatments generally take place between 3:00

Thursday, March 8th – Monday, March 12th

It has been a few days and we did not want to bore anyone with the same old daily routine, so we will update every few days.
Not too much has been going on differently, Thursday was the daily routine of rehab. Friday Nick had another spinal puncture, which all went well. I gave him a sleeping pill when he returned and he slept flat on his back for hours. It is very important for him to lay on his back for 6 hours after the injection, this prevents terrible headaches. Saturday was somewhat of a relaxing day for Nick, he just hung out chatting with the others (yes, I did a little shopping). Saturday evening we all went for a nice dinner across the street, I think there were about 16 of us in total. What an experience this was, the restaurant was on the second floor at the Rainbow Mall and we had to take the service elevator up. We were crammed in like sardines. The food was good, we had steak and veggies, a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white, a bottle of bourbon and light cola’s. What a good time we all had and Lynn & I can now proudly say we are squatters. (for those who do not know what squatting is, I will explain when we return) This will be a weekly outing for us all, that’s just how much fun we all had! Sunday, our adventure out took us all to the Train Station shopping center, this is right next to the Chinese border (entering from Hong Kong). My shopping buddy Dave coordinated the group outing, three vans arrived at 11:00 AM and picked us up at 4:00PM. Nick went to town on buying watches. He sat in a booth and picked out all the watches he wanted to see and guess what

Wednesday – March 7th

It is another cold and rainy day today. Nick had a really good night sleep on that new mattress pad. Our morning and afternoon routine was the same. Nick just spent a little more time on walking up and down the stairs and stretching.
I went shopping while Nick received his IV and brought him back an alarm clock for the room. Everything is so very cheap here, it is amazing

Tuesday – March 6th

It is a cold and rainy day in Shenzhen. Nick had a good night sleep and was up early. He had his rehab and we had one of the assistants translate what Dr Lee thought of Nick’s progress and he said that his balance has gotten better and he is stronger from the first week here. Nick’s afternoon rehab has changed a little, he now has occupational therapy. He has to unscrew screws on a board and screw them back into place. This is very hard for him and takes him time.
I walked down and got us McDonalds for dinner and boy oh boy was it good. Nice to have a taste of home, we really do miss our doggies, tub and bed, not to mention the TV.
I was on a mission to find a store that had the foam crate type mattress for Nick and I found it yesterday. Now Nick has a nice and comfy bed to sleep in, we will not talk about mine

Sunday March 4th

First thing in the morning Nick received his IV of Chinese medicine and we were ready for our day with the group, to Sea World. Sea World is not what you would think, you will not see dolphins or sea lions, however you can shop and eat in your choice of restaurant, it is very westernized. We think the reason why they refer to it as Sea World is: they have a very large sea vessel within a small water pond. The area is very large and even has a Starbucks

Saturday March 3rd

Nick slept good last night! I made us toast with peanut butter for breakfast and Nick had his IV. (I have not had any luck finding butter.) We went to Splendid China & Splendid Folk Culture Village for the afternoon. Put Nick in the wheel chair and we went by taxi, it was really good to get him out. It was a nice hot day, although it was not handicap friendly. There were many stairs; therefore we did not see much of it. Splendid China features seeing around the ancient, civilized country, everything is miniature size. What we did see, was really nice. The park was maintained and the flowers and gardens absolutely beautiful. You can smell the flowers in the slight breeze; I will never forget the beautiful scent.

Now our lunch was a story to tell. We ordered noodles and we received the noodles with meat (not sure what kind) and given chop sticks. I went back an asked for forks and they do not have forks. (Guess we will need to keep forks in my purse when we venture out) Therefore we had to eat with chop sticks, to our luck

Friday March 2nd

Nick slept good last night! The weather was nice and our morning started with Dr. Wu, she reviewed all the test results, which were all good. We are still waiting on the MRI results, she told us that Dr. Yang has them and he will talk with us. Other than that, Nick was off to rehab, had another IV and rested in the room waiting for his afternoon rehab. The only change with today’s rehab, he was video taped walking, tossing the ball back and forth and his stretching.

I went for a foot and back massage while Nick rested. This was fantastic!!! They soaked my feet in hot water with Chinese herbs while they massaged my back, they target all the pressure points

Thursday – March 1st

The weather in the morning was a little rainy, with a nice cool breeze. It was another sleepless night for Nick; I think he will take one of his sleeping pills so he can get a good night sleep. Yes it was another busy morning for us. Nick had a slight headache, only when he moves his head down, as well as a little lower back pain from the injection. (Yes, I got to hear all about the aches and pains, along with the bruises
