March 12th, 2007
It has been a few days and we did not want to bore anyone with the same old daily routine, so we will update every few days.
Not too much has been going on differently, Thursday was the daily routine of rehab. Friday Nick had another spinal puncture, which all went well. I gave him a sleeping pill when he returned and he slept flat on his back for hours. It is very important for him to lay on his back for 6 hours after the injection, this prevents terrible headaches. Saturday was somewhat of a relaxing day for Nick, he just hung out chatting with the others (yes, I did a little shopping). Saturday evening we all went for a nice dinner across the street, I think there were about 16 of us in total. What an experience this was, the restaurant was on the second floor at the Rainbow Mall and we had to take the service elevator up. We were crammed in like sardines. The food was good, we had steak and veggies, a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white, a bottle of bourbon and light cola’s. What a good time we all had and Lynn & I can now proudly say we are squatters. (for those who do not know what squatting is, I will explain when we return) This will be a weekly outing for us all, that’s just how much fun we all had! Sunday, our adventure out took us all to the Train Station shopping center, this is right next to the Chinese border (entering from Hong Kong). My shopping buddy Dave coordinated the group outing, three vans arrived at 11:00 AM and picked us up at 4:00PM. Nick went to town on buying watches. He sat in a booth and picked out all the watches he wanted to see and guess what

Hi Maria & Nick,
Sounds like you are having quite an adventure over there!
In addition to your entries, I have been reading some of the other blogs to see what type of progress others have made. Particularly inspiring was little Luca’s story! If you haven’t read it, you should. It will certainly give you hope and a desire to persevere. Love form us.

Nick and Maria,
Sorry but you are having an unlucky time with the water. I have never heard anyone say that before. Someone must just want to keep you guys awake.
What about progress in terms of Nick’s Ataxia? Can you give an update?
Thank you.

Hi Maria and Nick,
I just got all caught up on your amazing experiences. Even under such a difficult pretense, it sounds like you are making the most of your travels. It is neat that you are meeting such inspiring people from all over the world.
Nick’s treatments sound exsausting. Please know that you are both in my thoughts and I am sending you love daily.
I’m glad I can now keep track of how things are going with you and Nick in China.
Best Wishes,
Simone

Hey Nick
Just want to say that I was so happy to find out how you were making out over there. It was great reading on how you were doing and I enjoyed the pictures also. I think of you all the time and your name is mentioned in my prayers everyday. Sure do miss you not being around work. We had some good laughs. I think I lost about ten pounds since your toolbox filled with candy bars are not there! All of a sudden I feel like I having a Kit Kat! Ha Ha! Anyway keep up the good work there and I hope to see you sometime when you get back.
My Love to Everyone
