Back in the UK

Hello all

We landed back in the uk on Thursday morning and have stayed at Gary & Lynda’s for a couple of days. I am suffering a little from jet lag and have been up since 5am this morning making crumpets (which I couldnt do before ha ha). I am feeling much the same as when I was in China, walking and talking loads better than before the treatment started. We will try and leave message updates weekly (whenever we are in manchester) so please continue to watch this space and leave your comments.

Love to all

Friday 27th June – Netta

Hi from NZ – Well what a trip that was…. We were meant to be having the whole day in Hong Kong around the pool. We had it all worked out – arrive in HK at approx. 9am and have a long, lazy, sunbathing day before my flight (which was the first and due to leave at 6.10pm).

You must be joking – it started when we arived at Hainan airport at 7am to be told the flight was delayed due to a Tyhoon in Hong Kong!!!! Never mind, we had plenty of time to spare – no worries and still quite chilled out at this stage….

We were still sat there at 12 noon and they decided to feed us all (which was good of them as we were starving by then). We were told by a lovely english speaking chinese guy that we would be boarding as soon as lunch was over – still fine – no problem – loads of time…..

We finally boarded at approx. 12.45pm and what should have taken 55minutes ended up taking over 2 hours, but hey! there had been a Typhoon and we had loads of time so no problem….

Once the plane had landed, it parked up miles away from the terminal and a bus was there to take everyone, except there was only a steep staircase between us and the bus and although Terry has been doing great since the treatment he definately wasn’t up to tackling them never mind the torrential rain and gales…. We were all given see through plastic coats to put on and mum and I spent the next 20 mins laughing at everybody – One guy was having so much trouble he just couldn’t get into it and I was laughing so much I couldn’t help him – he finally got it on  but BACK TO FRONT!!!! hahaha – he had an opening at the back of his head and he was sucking on the plastic almost suffocating himself. It was hilarious!!!!!!! As you can imagine mum and I were crying with laughter and Terry was just looking at us like we had gone mad.

Anyway – we were left on the plane while the cleaners came on and went off and we waited and waited for a lift to come for Terry. Finally a lift came and took us to the terminal – this was approx. 4pm and Terry needed to go to the loo and I ran off to try to sort out the luggage as it wasn’t going straight through – Anyway, once it was all sorted we had 30 mins before I had to board. Once on the plane we were told of another delay and we sat on the plane for another 2 hours before take off…… Finally I arrived home yesterday lunchtimish… Gonna burn my passport now! Don’t EVER want to fly again..

Don’t know how mum and Terry got on, all I know is they arrived safely and I’m sure they will update us soon.

Tuesday 24th June – Netta

Hi Everyone – Sorry its so late but its been a hectic one today…. Well we’re all packed and ready to go, we’re being picked up at 6.30am and will spend the day in Hong Kong which will be a bit of a killer as Mum and Terry’s flight isn’t until 11.15pm!! Mine isn’t as bad its around 6pm ish. We’ve said our goodbyes to the doctors, nurses and Maisie (photo’s below) – Stanley is taking us to the airport so we will say our goodbyes to him then and will get a couple of photo’s which I will add once I get home.

Thanks to Paul for acknowledging Maisie and Stanley - they have been stars and it would have been so difficult without them, they work really hard and nothing is a problem for them (at least not to our faces haha). We have met some great people who we intend to keep in touch with, its been quite emotional saying goodbye to some of them as I feel we’ve really bonded having this experience in common. We wish them all well and hope they continue to improve.

Well bye for now and lots of love to you all and we will be home shortly….

PS Mum has quit the blog – camera broke so thats it – so she will need a bit of help and encouragment from you all once she’s home….

Might not get to speak to you Sarah before your hol so I hope you and Shell have a great time and I’ll call you when you get back xx…

Would love the role as Aladdin Penny, but Terry said that you’re not the casting director so I’m not allowed!!!!

Monday 23rd June

Terry has had his final injection today, he has not been as bad this time but it ‘s still taken it out of him a bit. We asked the doctor about his set back and he did’nt seem bothered he said it sometimes happens but it should rectify itself.

Last day tomorrow so we will be packing and dismantling the kitchen. We have some new neighbours so they will probably have the pots and pans, they are from Mexico.

Jeanette is on the video today, she’s finally put in an appearance. She say’s she’s alright if she’s in disguise check it out and see if you recognise her.

Sunday 22nd June- Lynda

Hi all,

Terry had a day off today, Jeanette and I went shopping to buy the nurses some chocolates as a thankyou for when we leave. Did a couple of short videos of Terry to try to get used to my camera as we’ve used Jeanettes until now.

We still have had no results from Terry’s test although he was abit better this morning but he was still abit wobbly. He has his final injection tomorrow and we will try to speak to the doctors because he seems worse than he was last week although he is still better than when we arrived and we’ve got to try and keep that in mind.

Saturday 21st June – Lynda

Hi all,  This is my first time so you will have to be kind to me. Terry still isn’t feeling too good, he say’s he’s better in the morning but he has been told to rest.  He had a fall yesterday but he did’t hurt himself, he had to go for a scan of his bladder this morning and a test to make sure he has’nt got a water infection but we haven’t had the results yet, will let you all know once we get them.

He is reading his last book so he is panicking that it will be finished before the end of our stay.

We did  a short video yesterday of him trying to stand up from a low chair but it is probably not a true assessment as he wasn’t at his best and fell shortly afterwards.

Hope you are having a good week-end. Love to all.

Friday 20th June – Netta

Hi everyone – It was lovely to get so many comments from you all and the banter going between you was great too. It would be good if mum continues with the blog but I don’t know if she will – I should get her to try it over the next few days eh?

Congratulations Ollie and Linda and good luck Georgia.. We already did ‘Don’t jump off the roof dad’ last week but you must have missed it so heres another rendition…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf4whZviWjo for georgia plus.

We think those lads holding on to each other were blind Nathan. Thats the nursing school and they go in and out of there everyday we think.

Good luck Rachel – You can do it.

Check out the turn on the following vid – he did it without even thinking about it. Try to remember what he was like before. The actual walking doesn’t look any different from last week but his confidence has definately improved and things are becoming more natural. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT2M9puoD3A Walking

Thursday 19th June – Netta

Hi all – this is the second time I’ve done this today – for some reason my earlier attempt got lost in Cyber space.

Terry was feeling great this morning and did 4 laps of the corridor – sadly I didn’t know about it until too late and so didn’t get it on film. He’s gone a bit tired and wobbly now (just not his usual self) but he has been pushing himself at the gym and the heat and humidity just saps you. He’s just had Rabbit stew for dinner and is quite fat and happy in the other room and probably not far from his bed haha.

Glad you’re feeling better Nathan and there’ll be no lasting effects – hope you realise how lucky you’ve been and have learned your lesson not to do anything so dangerous in the future.

Congratulations to Laura for doing well in her exams and becoming a prefect.

Well done Jackieann – good scores too!! They need some proper driving tests in China, never seen so many near misses…..

Not heard from Georgia since the big bug – hope we’ve not put you off…

The bull frogs were at it again last night – I’m going to kill the lot of them if they’re there tonight. They were croaking into the early hours and when they stopped at approx. 3am they forgot to tell one of their mates who decided he was going to continue alone… I almost blew a gasket!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0auCDOERZyE

Glad the wedding went well Sinead – any chance of any piccies???? Anyway, until tomorrow xxx

Wednesday 18th June – Netta

Hi Guys – OK we’ve cancelled the strike…. Don’t know why though as there was still only a handful of messages but never mind. We were only joking anyway and only went on strike as we had nothing to report and you know what a trouble causer that Lynda is….haha.

Terry’s had his 5th stemcell injection today and he’s been a bit off colour since which is quite normal. We did however, film him with a lovely chinese lady on the balcony, she was trying to get him doing exercises but she doesn’t speak a word of english so it was a bit hit and miss. She had been cooking something in the microwave next door and she was trying to tell us what it was but we had to get our interpreter to come in the end to explain – turns out it was frogs (she showed us a huge bag of dried frogs) and she takes the insides out to make a nutricious concoction for her daughter in law (the one who had a stroke during childbirth). She told us its very expensive to buy but she feels well worth it. She showed Terry some dried crocodiles (or Alligators) yesterday!!! Don’t know what she does with them.

Terry missed the television debut as they came today instead of tomorrow and it clashed with his Stemcells injection. He said it doesn’t matter anyway as he’s already world famous on four continents, hahaha.

Here are a couple of photo’s of a group of ladies exercising before bed – quite dark but you’ll get the jist..
