Stem Cell Treatment #1
July 23rd, 2007
Jim has just been wheeled back into our room from his first spinal stem cell infusion. We were both a little nervous about it and I think Dr. Mike and his staff sensed that and were very reassuring all morning.
Jim is awake (they don’t actually put you out for the procedure, you’re just kind of transported to la-la land for awhile. He came back in the room quoting “Deadwood”. I only hope he wasn’t quoting it in the operating room!
We put some beautiful Tibetan chanting music (thanks to Pamelah and Bill) on Jim’s ipod thinking that it would be relaxing to listen to while he has to lay perfectly still for six hours. But in true Jim form he is greeting the new little stem cells with Eric Clapton! At least they’re getting an introduction to authentic, 100% pure Jim Thrower!! Now they know what to expect.
I did refuse Jim’s request for KFC (yes, they have one here) for dinner when he’s able to eat. We’re not going to posion those little stem cells! Instead we’ve ordered vegetables, tofu, chili-chicken and rice. There could be some chocolate involved….
There is one pretty amazing thing…Jim’s dyskinsea in his right leg is completely gone. It was quite pronounced just before he went into surgery and I was worried that it might affect his ability to lay still after the procedure. It could be the relaxation meds, or coincidence, or the miracle of stem cells…we’ll see in the morning.

Hi Guys,
I finally found your blog. I had to go to the main site first, then look in the Blog list and it’s under the Js for Jim Thrower, not in the Ts for Thrower, just in case anyone asks you.
So glad to hear that Jim has already had one treatment! It’s raining in Washington, too.
Love & prayers,
Marth

Hi, Jim – this is Naureen (Tama) checking in. Pamelah and Bill have kept me abreast of what is going on with you and of course there are no words, only deep feelings of love and support and empathy for you and your beautiful family.
Here is Sarasota I have a friend who is the head of the East/West College of Natural Medicine and she travels to China frequently, actually is going there I believe next month. If you would like me to get any names of doctors from her, I would be glad to assit in this humble little way.
with love, Tama

Dear J & B,
From this end we are all smiling – It seems that wherever Jim goes in the world or has been in the world he makes good friends – and keeps them….it must have felt great to have some visitors, I can’t wait to hear the story of how Jim met
him!
So gllad Rock and Roll could see him through the 1st treatment….if only Eric Clapton knew!!
Lili arrived home from Spain with the “Barcelona Bug” and we
are all sick and laying around….She had a spectacular trip most of which was experienced at night….Met young people from all over the world….(mostly guys). Now home, she’s having some difficulty adjusting to the rules……
Chester and the girls join me in sending some really warm
(actually hot) Sonoma love your way….hoping that your
day after #1 is a very very good day indeed!!!!
XOXO, Frances

Synronized swimming on land! And you without a camera? That would most certainly fall under the category of a missed opportunity.
We are all thinking about you and sending positive brain waves. You should be able to feel them coming curving around the earth to your side!
Everything is under control at WHC. We are scrambling in our typical end of the month mania. And Geff and Susan will be in Chicago at IFT this coming weekend. We have filled up the warehouse and are pushing hard to move out some large blocks of product.
Your meal plan reminds me of the commercial where Bill Clinton and Hillary are sitting in a diner and she orders carrot sticks. Bill comes back with “no onion rings?”. Making Jim eat tofu and rice. No wonder he is hankering for KFC and a Snickers!
I am happy to hear that the staff is so impressive. That really builds confidence and puts you at ease in an unfamiliar setting.
Keep up the progress reports. It really feels good to be in the loop.

Dear Jim & Billie;
We are delighted to read that the trip went relatively well and that the treatments are off to a good start. You both are in our prayers for a successful outcome and a safe trip home. All is well here.
